He's probably using a different alias. rumor has it that Harrold Perrineu was seen filming with M.c Gainy (Mr Friendly). So maybe michael did make it off the island on the bearings that ben gave him (the same as the chopper flew out on). Which gives me the theory that Tom tracked him down to give him a chance to redeem himself and help his friends out, as well as helping the others.

I assume michael is going by the name of kevin johnson which is the name of his episode 'meet kevin johnson'

I think we will see Michaels flashback as follows (just a theory) Michael and walt leave Island and head back to new york, when Mr friendly comes looking for them sometime around christmas (hence seen being filmed in new york at christmas) he will force Michael somehow into being a spy on this freighter about to leave...england (probley) Michael will take on a new alias as Kevin Johnson and will be outed to viewers as the spy, sayid and des will hate him knowing what he did to anna lucia and libby and knowing he tricked their friends into a hostage situation.
But also maybe...Walt never left the Island! hence being seen by locke! maybe Michael was talked into joining this freighter to get his son back!
