This may ramble…bear with me please……

Love him or hate him this series is centred around Jack!

The very first thing we saw was him (his eye to be precise), and as the camera pulled out we saw he was quite a way away from the beach in a bamboo grove, without being impaled!!? (with a minor injury…after a mid-air explosion & crash?!?)…and then he springs into action…..

Does this mean from the beginning (or is it??), that the island wont let Jack die? Christian tells Vincent to go & wake his son up because he has “work to do”…does he just mean treating the sick & injured from the crash…..leading the Losties…or something more….?

As we know all the characters have “Daddy Issues”, Jack’s is no exception, a drunken bully who repeatedly puts Jack down through his childhood (he advised Jack not to be a hero because he didn’t have what it took to fail. Why was Christian so convinced Jack would fail?....is it some kind of sick double bluff?)
Christian, however, describes his father as a “great man”..(just as the Others describe Jacob as a “great man...do you see where im going with this ramble now…)
When Sawyer meets Christian in the bar in Sydney he describes Jack as "..a good man, maybe a great one”!!

When Locke, Ben & Hurley went looking for Jacob, they find the cabin, but no Jacob…instead Locke finds Christian & Claire!???? (WTF!)….Christian says that he can speak on Jacobs behalf….how…..why…? Why is Claire (of all people) there?

Then we see Jack in his flashforwards as an increasingly broken man, desperate to return to the island that he fought to escape from, but with no clear reason why. Is it the guilt of leaving people behind, is it because Hurley has told him they should not have left the island (does he finally believe in Locke’s faith in his “special” island), is it because he never really had anything to go back to!


What if the island has been waiting for Jack…a healer, a Shepeard (Shephard?)…there were at least 4 members of this family on the island at the same time…Christian, Claire, Aaron & Jack…..should we include Jacob on the family list…..Is Jacob a Shephard???? Does this make 5 (another tat on Jacks arm!)…four generations of 1 family…..

The fact that Jack was relatively uninjured is not exclusive to him. Many of the survivors escaped the crash with little or no injuries. I think this means that many of them including Jack are wanted by the island and it will not let them die until/if it wants them to.

Is Jacob a member of the Shephard family? I think it's possible. It would explain why Christian would be able to speak on Jacob's behalf. I can't see another reason at the moment as to why he would be able to do this. Jack being a man of science as opposed to faith would be harder to convince about his role in all of this than the likes of Locke who is a man of faith. Maybe Locke's role is to convince Jack about his place in the order of things. Clare we have seen visit a fortune teller so she would be more open minded.

You can't argue with the fact that Jack is meant to be on that island and is meant to go back. I think it's a combination of guilt and some understanding he has aquired about the island that makes him want to return. It may be that he is slowly releasing what Locke and Ben have been telling him all along.

Could Jack be meant to lead the Others? Is he the next Jacob? All are possible. Is there a different role set aside for him that helps the island resulting in the whole Shephard family working for the island? Aaron we assume will take up his role when he is older.

I think the repeated phrase of "great man" started to click with something in my head. I just wonder whether the people who rule from the cabin are all from the same family (a dynasty maybe). I think with all the focus at the moment on Ben (which is only natural ) and the freighter people and explosions that our naughty are distracting us (in the nicest possible way!

It also appears that when Jack (and the 06) left the island that all hell broke loose...was this because Jack left? If Locke was the "chosen one", why is he off the island & dead (not an easy position to lead from!!)

As for what you said about most of the Losties having only minor injuries, thats a fair point. But i have always wondered why Jack was so far away from them all when he woke up?

I completely agree with you Omen (obviously!) there is no denying that Jack is very central to the storyline, you can tell it if nothing else from his number of flashbacks and the amount of time given to his character in general.

All you have said makes perfect sense to me.

I think it's possible that Jack and the O6 + 2 leaving could be a factor in why everything went to pot later. Wasn't Bernard in a tree when they found him away from the other survivors too? I don't think Bernard is important in the scheme of things though.

I see what you mean about "great man". I'd never considered that before.

Yeah, the "great man" thing got me started...hmmmmm. I wonder if we can find out what his grandfather did for a living....another surgeon....or maybe a ships doctor....?

...not much love for this then.....well, Jack is a bit of a pain in the butt sometimes..

There isnt much lurve around for Jack, which may be why people dont like to think that he will be that important. Most definitely doesnt mean they are right though!

Im not overly enamoured with Jack myself, but we KNOW that he is the lead character in all this (unless there will be a HUGE switcheroo coming up!)i just think its too much of a co-inky-dink that there are so many members of the same family involved in this...!

Wether you like Jack or not you have to consider his role in the scheme of things. The same goes for most of the other characters.

I just thought of something. If his role is of great importance to the island why was Ben going to let him go home after he performed surgery on him back in Season 3. Of course maybe Ben had no real intention of letting him go.

I don't understand why people don't like Jack. I know his flashbacks are a bit boring but he is a good guy. I like him anyway.

I must admit, I dont understand why there has been quite such a vicious backlash against Jack. Quite a few characters (well, most of em!) have bad/dark sides to them, no one is perfect.

There are some I dont particularly relate to or like, but what worries me is the ferocity with which some people hate him - they just cant see anything past their hatred. I would be very worried if I had that side to my personality at all, hate is a very bad emotion to have. Does you no mental or physical good whatsoever, so it should never be wasted on a fictional tv character - save it for your proper enemies

Well Choccy...he SAID he was going to let him go home, but do we beilieve the naughty little pixie?? His manipulation knows no bounds....bless him!

As for all the Jack hate, i dont entirely understand it either, he is an interesting character, and has been through so many changes. Hes not a fave but i can understand entirely why he is important.

As you say Smokey, save the hate....it can be better used elsewhere....



Also..addition....when Jack first woke up on the island he was in a circle of bamboo, whenever the Losties hid from Polar Bears or Smokey they tended to hide in these places....co-inky-dink??
Also the next thing seen was Vincent (something wierd about that dog dude!), and then 1 tennis shoe hanging in the bamboo......eh???

...tis sad to think that Jack is pivotal to the entire story and not locke (my fave) but hey ho...the witches go
