No-one seemed to be continuing the whole writing what the people do 24/7 thing.

I can't think of anymore evidence at the moment *lol* But you get the idea (hopefully!)

It might of been that the people still in the hatches were sealed in there and were not effected by the gas attack and not sure about the outside situation of the purge. Remember all the messages sent through the shute and the pile of messages.

Ares did his best to destroy the Amazons, using Hercules against them, but Diana was born and raised just in time to fight Ares as Steve Trevor's plane, driven by one of Ares's human puppets, crashed into Paradise Island. His plot was to fire the missiles between the United States and Russia at the same time, provoking World War III, but Diana managed to make him see, trapped in her magic lasso, how this chaos would lead to his own disappearing, with Ares having no one to worship him.

I saw this when searching the tinternet and I was thinking of the greek connection when posting.
The island seems to have had alot of civilisations on it from what ever the foot statue came from what the ruins at the others pretend camp at the end of season 1 and the rope bridge seemed very old as well
