It is a good line of thought and that it could be the theme of Purgatory which has been dismissed, but why all the reference to death and the smoke, images of the past are seen in the smoke when Mr Ecko stares it out. That fact that it could be the last place on earth as Desmonds said and at some point just like Noahs Ark just taking the selected few people from the world, to be saved. There is alot to be explained.

I was thinking that Walt, who in doubt is some kind of Psychic child as said in the first series by his step father as having strange abilities. Vincent could be protecting him like some kind of personal guardian.

i reckon vincent is cursed - in america they reckoned after the episode where Ana-Lucia died, they reckon the ppl who hang aroudn with the dog 2 much always experience something bad, like Walt got kidnapped.
And Shannon looked after the dog for a bit and died, Ana-Lucia also sported the dog for the time after killing Shannon, when she was hated and stayed on her lonely side of the beach. But even if Vincent is cursed i would like him to stay on the show. There was a mention of a death of an animal in Season 3 - i hope it's not Vincent

did you see lockes face during s1 when the smoke was pulling him into the hole he's never looked like that before he looked like he was actually scared because the smoke scanned his mind then showed him his greatest fear

I would think vincent along the line of being something to do with Anibus or a greater evil. But who knows maybe he is a voodoo dog.

Whilst on the issue of Anibus, the statue of the foot that Sun and company found dident look completely human. I was wondering if the foot could be that of Anibus, bearing in mind that he was like half dog half man.
What are your thoughts on this torrycoo?

I know he genuinely looked scared but was ready for what he saw in the smoke, remember when we first see the smoke {WTF} it was like it stalked them like a lion!

Well I thought it was the foot out of Monty Python as someone rightly put. But it was a nice move by the writers I am quite into the Egypt direction and Anibus and Horus are linked in history plus Anibus is also the son of Ra the creator of god the religious connection once again.
The Hieroglyphics on the timer in the SWAN was definitely of some importance. I mean why would you put them there for no reason. Perhaps it is some kind of doorway for Anibus and company to enter the real world but who knows. Maybe its all hogwash but i really believe in all of that Egyptian God stuff.

I never played TLE game... but do remember vaguely reading about Persephone. If your threads get deleted when posting this info i don't suppose there's much point of searching for anything. Will I make the connection via google (Phoenician, Persephone etc..) or is it specifically a part of TLE game?

I posted my whacky theory about Vincent on the "PLEASE READ THIS ..." thread earlier today, but just in case you haven't seen it:
I don't think Vincent is really there!
It's all to do with Walt's "special powers" - think it's safe to assume that he definately has them. These powers possibly include ability to call up certain animals (polar bear, shark, the bird that flew into window in Oz when he was frustrated at being ignored by brian and susan). Most instances where he calls up creatures, it's to do with negative emotions like fear, anger, frustration. OK, if he can call up animals, could this include Vincent? And did the dog materialise to comfort him in his hour of need (being ignored by B&S, mother died, new father, plane crash etc etc). Think Walt's powers could be dangerous or out of control - eg. polar bear attacked him not person he as angry with. Maybe this would explain why someone dies or gets into serious trouble the minute they're kind to the doggie!
S3 might be able to prove theory. Vincent wasn't on the boat with Walt and Michael in finale so should be back on the beach .... unless he can't be seen now that Walt's left (ie. no-one to make him materialise). BUT there's some confusion over whether dog did leave island with them - wasn't in finale (boy, have I looked and looked!) but makers said he was on the boat, and the dvd extras "making of" bit shows him on the boat too.
