Maybe...

He's in charge of The Others we've seen so far but I don't think Fenry Gale is "him"...

No, because he says "HE is a good man, a BRILLIANT man, but not a forgiving man" which suggests there is at least one higher than he is amongst the others

Thank you. Namaste. Good Luck.

We know that how? If they are who I think they are, they HAVE to protect their identities because their lives and what they know could be at risk if they (the others) are found. Protecting you identity with lies, hiding the whereabouts of the people you live amongst is not the sameas being a compulsive liar

Henry seems to be high in the rankings of the Others (i.e. above Beard Man) but there is someone else.

The guy who organises the Round the World Yacht Race got Desmond there so HE must be something to do with it.

Who do You think they are ?
Presumably their names would mean something to the losties ? otherwise what would be the harm in telling them ?

I think they are scientists from the Hansor Foundation OR the guys who worked on the equation at the VIK institute. They have to protect their identities from the losties because one day the losties MAY be rescued and they dont want it getting out. think about it, false names, disguises etc, it makes sense

Thank you. Namaste. Good Luck.

i think the others are the good guys and are like a guerilla group against dharma. the reason the wear disguises was to not show there real identity till they knew they could trust the survivors( kate , jack, sawyer)

Just so everyone is clear. Guerrillas in this sense are a group fighting against a main leading body as I have mentioned. The meaning of Guerilla is from the Spanish term guerra, or War, with the -illa ending diminutive, it can be be translated as small war, in this case against Hanso possibly. Though less a war than a resistence to do what Hanso what which they will fight against doing to the death it seems.

The term was invented in Spain to describe the tactics used to resist the French regime instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte (again similar to the way that the Others are resisting the will of Hanso). The -illa term accepts the unequal fight between civilians against an organized State Army or in this case a large organisation.

Its meaning was soon broadened to refer to any similar resistance of any time or place such as this one.

Guerrilla tactics are based on intelligence, ambush, deception, sabotage, and espionage, undermining an authority through long, low-intensity confrontation. As you have mentioned and is something the Others have become very adept at.

Just to add, it may be of interest to some that T.E.Lawrence, best known as "Lawrence of Arabia," introduced a theory of guerrilla warfare tactics in an article he wrote for the Encyclopedia Britannica published in 1938.

In that article, he compared guerrilla fighters to a gas. The fighters disperse in the area of operations more or less randomly. They or their cells occupy a very small intrinsic space in that area, just as gas molecules occupy a very small intrinsic space in a container. The fighters may coalesce into groups for tactical purposes, but their general state is dispersed. Such fighters cannot be "rounded up." They cannot be contained. They are extremely difficult to "defeat" because they cannot be brought to battle in significant numbers.

The cost in soldiers and material to destroy a significant number of them becomes prohibitive, in all senses, that is physically, economically, morally, etc.

It should be noted that Lawrence describes a non-native occupying force as the enemy (e.g. our losties must appear that way to the others!!)

I had this idea in my head when I posted and assumed others would know what I meant so was quite shocked to see you post it as an idea of your own. Thinking I had posted clearly (and looking back by the way I can see I didnt at all) I was quite taken aback at the rudeness of posting directly after me and rephrasing what i thought I had posted in a way that made it your own. How silly I feel and excuse my impudence I meant no offence though imagined I felt it. Big Grin If its any consolation, Im off on holiday tomorrow, am racked with stomach pains and stressing about packing etc etc so please excuse me for thinking I had wroitten what I hadnt, Im nuts this week, sorry Big Grin

Thank you. Namaste. Good Luck.

Lawrence's 'Seven Pillars of Wisdom' was prior to 1938 and mentioned lots on this - the Boer war was a guerrilla war too...as was the American war of independence when the insurgence rose up against their British occupiers and overthrew them...with the help of the French...

i think "him" is either that guy of the film in the hatch or walt because it seems the whole "him" thing is a prophecy and it could be walt because of walts "powers" he would be considered as great but also unforgiving as henry says eg polar bear attack
