The oppisate effect happens to men, the reproductive system is boosted. Women die in there 3rd trimester, if they get pregnant at all because the baby grows at an abnormal rate, not allowing changes to occour in the body

Looking at the clocks (in "The Economist"), we see that 2 hours 45 minutes (165 minutes) on the island clock = 3 hours 16 minutes (196 minutes) on the payload clock.
Island = 165 mins : Outside = 196 mins
1 day has 1440 minutes (24 x 60)
So 1440 divided by 196 and then multipled by 165 gives us how many minutes elapse on the island for every 1440 outside.
Island = 1212 mins : Outside = 1440 mins
So each 24 hour period outside is roughly 20 hours on the island.
Thus a year off the island: 365x24 = 8760 hrs A year on the island: 365x20 = 7300 hrs
A year off the island is just over 304 days on the island.
So four years off the island is around 3 years and 3 months on the island.

"One small factor that might throw a spanner in the works though is the consideration of leap years. So the long term factor for years might not be 1:15 depending on the length of time that might be involved here.(I'm working on that.) I.ve never actually watched Lost. You've got me mystified now horsey. The above gives a ratio of 1:1.188 and not 1:15.5 i.e. 2 island minutes = 2.376 off-island minutes. Whereas up there ^^^ you gave a ratio of 1:15.5 i.e. 2 island minutes = 31 off-island minutes.
