If Danielle arrived in the 1700's, surely she wouldnt have had a clue what to do with a battery and how come she was on a "science expdition" and why isnt she dressed in one of those dodgy dresses with a bustle!!

And the song she wrote on the piece of paper, I forget what it was called, that wasnt written at that time.

Something isnt sitting right......

I wonder if time was a bit behind, and has gradually sped up,(or slowed down, depending upon how you look at it!) due to the "incident", then maybe again when the failsafe key was turned......

BEN (again)

It has been said that we know that Ben arrived on the island around 1976 in 'real world' terms and that now (2004?) he is approx 38. That would mean a lapsed time of 28 years, but it would also be a passage of around 28 'real world' years. Thus if we had a fixed time ratio of 1:15.5 then this would mean that Ben would have had to have spent very little of the intervening years on the Island.
However if we go with the 'loop theory' the time ratio would be changing, sometimes the island would be slower than the 'real world', sometimes almost the same as and other times it might be faster. This then would allow someone to hop on and off the island more frequently and spend greater amounts of time on the iland and lesser amounts of time off-island and still have it all happening within the lapsed and 'real' 28 years.
A further consideration is that the rate-of-change of the time ratio could also be changing, thus giving even more scope for lapsed time and real world time to diverge and merge in an apparent hap-hazzard way.

Good point fluffy.

I think that the time loops around a certain point like I stated before through past present and future so your idea backs that up .

Like a spinning wheel, you can get off at point 1 and get back on at a different point whereby it will spin you back to the original point you got off.

Makes good sense.

Check out my redone calculations to see a loop in action presuming I am on the right track

Just redid the calculations Horsey as one thing puzzled me with your friends calculations about the 2 minutes to 31 minutes.

If you go exactly by the payload which was menat to arrive in 15 seconds then watch these calculations

15 seconds=31 minutes
1 minute=124 minutes
1 hour=7440 minutes=124 hours=5.15 days
1 day=2976 hours=124 days
1 year=45260 days=124 years

Notice the 124 similiarity which shows a formula at work that it keeps reverting back to 124.

1 sec on island = 124 seconds off the island

so here we have a constant number in the calculations which is 124

124 years=15376 years off island which is a square root obviously and the point i feel the drifting stops and they revert around again in a loop

Yes, it's effectively the same calculation, just changed by a factor of eight. (8*15 seconds = 2 minutes and 8* 15.5 = 124.) Smile

Is it a loop or is it a spiral?
i.e. Itlooks the same but is subtley different. Wink

hard to tell looking at it to be honest but I wouls say it does revolve around the earths core.

if Daniel says 5 mins = 75 mins then

1 minute = 15 minutes
1 hour= 900 minutes= 15 hours
1 day= 216000 minutes= 900 hrs= 15 days
1 yr= 5475 days=15 years

15 is one of the numbers to be inputted so would that mean that the other numbers are fluctuations within the course correction of the tiime difference Eek

going with the numbers so

1min = 4 mins
1hr= 240 minutes=4 hours
1 day= 96 hours= 4 days
1 yr= 35040= 4 years

1m=8m
1hr=480 minutes=8 hrs
1 day=8 days
1 yr = 8 yrs

etc for4,8,15,16,23,42

So if they go by this formula in sequence does that mean that the cycle reverts every 108 years by adding the numbers together ie they are four years off then 8 etc until they hit 42 and then does it revert.

This is getting to the edge of what I know/have read about the programme, but I think I'm still with you! Big Grin
It sounds quite plausible.

So the numbers finally seem to mean something. So where about in the sequence of 4,8,15,16,23,42 are we. And what happens noe that the Swan station is gone? Ninja

So is it that every time the button doesnt get pressed the time difference stretches?? Thats why we're on 15 in the ratio??

But if that is the case then theyre going to be stuck there as they cant fail to press the button anymore.

Oh and *SPOILER* *is that why the rabbit in that video has the number 15 on it? *

Oooh its like you lot are actually getting somewhere woooohoooo!

There are 6 numbers in this sequence and, I understand, to be 6 series. We seem to have got the 15 from series 4 so is it:-
42 - series 1
4 - series 2
8 - series 3
15 - series 4
16 series 5
23 - series 6

?????

True goodomen!!! Big Grin

Erm, I dont think so fluffy, as the numbers are always in sequence.

BUT if 4 years is one year then that may have been when rousseau (french lady) got there, because she's been there 16 years and 16x4 is more feasible than 15x16 surely??

The rabbit with the 15 is very interesting as it could be part of the experiment and we know that part of juliets episode will be about the orchid station.

there are 6 series but originally there were to be three. Numbers also go in numerical sequence.

interestinmg thing is Daniels reaction to the time difference as if he expected it but it was greater than he thought. i expect he thought it would be nearer the four or eight so the hatch being blown up has obviously affected it greatly and altered it. They had to keep pushing the button so would that mean that if they dont that if they reach 42 all ends due to the old womans emphasis on the human race depending on it

Unfortunatly maths makes my head go all squidgy! Ninja

But, do you mean that while the button was being pushed that the time difference remained fairly constant, but after the incident it changed or accelerated?

Just found this, seems like a backstory for Mr Faraday , seems like he knew Des, have their paths crossed yet?-

Before the Island

In 1996, Daniel Faraday was a professor at Queens College, Oxford. He was conducting unauthorized experiments involving time travel, and had created a machine that allowed a living creature's conscious to pass through time. When visited by Desmond, he believed that someone was playing a practical joke on him, but when Desmond mentioned Eloise, Daniel's lab rat, he believed Desmond.
Daniel and Desmond go to his lab to test out Desmond's numbers. The machine works on Eloise and she is able to finish the maze that is presented in front of her. When Dan becomes ecstatic, Desmond doesn't see how this can help him until Dan tells him that he had just built the maze that morning and wasn't going to show her how to complete it for another hour. This proves that her consciousness "shifted" in time an hour into the future. As Dan plots out equations on the board, Desmond passes out.
Desmond wakes up exactly 75 minutes later and tells Dan that he had lived 5 minutes on the boat. He gets up and notices that Eloise has died and Dan explains that she had no constant; something that existed in both the present and the future. When asked by Desmond if it would happen to him, he replies, "I don't know." Desmond tries to call Penelope, but when he finds out that her number has been disconnected, he runs from the room. It is assumed that later on, he writes in his journal "If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant."("The Constant")

Daniel cries at the discovery of the wreckage of Flight 815. ("Confirmed Dead")Eight years later, Daniel lived in Essex, Massachusetts under the care of an assistant. Daniel watched a news report covering the discovery of the Oceanic 815 wreckage crash and was moved to tears. When asked by his caretaker what was wrong, he responded that he didn't know.
Some time later, he became part of a team, organized by Matthew Abaddon and led by Naomi Dorrit, that was sent to the island looking for Ben Linus. ("Confirmed Dead")
