This time lapse theory has to be incorrect. Because...
The time on the island seems a lot slower than real time isn't it?
Because jack thought the chopper had been gone for ages when in the real world it hadn't been long. And when daniel did the experiment with the payload, regina reported that it had landed and it took another 31 minutes. So isnt that the opposite of what this theory suggests??
Hmmm sweet tooth, my head gets scrambled when I start thinking about time travel and the suchlike.....
If the Islanders (and Danielle) are judging time on the number of days and nights, you can see why they dont realise that the time is moving any differently. I dont think any of us would notice (without a watch or a tv programme to guide us!) if we lost half an hour a day.
So, Danielle has counted 16 years somehow. Off island that would be..... more years than she thinks??!!!

Would that be more feasible than her being hundreds of years old?
I'm only up to episode 9 of series one, but it would seem to me that the reason Danielle thinks she's been gone 16 years is because Sayid told her that's how long her SOS has been playing.
She wouldn't physically be hundreds of years old. Her physical age would be whatever age she was when she first landed on the island plus the apparent 16 years she has been there. However the outside world would be a lot older than that, assuming that the ratio of 1:15 is correct.

darn it. i need more zider
No I think off island that would be less than she thinks????
I think you need to think of time on the island as a constant in terms of Danielle and her 16 year old daughter or it gets to confusing...it does mean that many many years have passed off the island...though fluffy will need to calculate exactly how much this actually is?

There could well be a few more twists. I believe it could well turn out to be the year 2010!

In the region of 240 to 250 if we're talking about Danielle's apparent 16 years. So she arrived on island around 1756. (in real world terms)
It is all a bit confusing, especially as I'm still flying blind, mostly.

Why though? If regina thought that it had got there in 2 mins but it took 31 mins of on-island time then surely not that long wouldve past on the outside?

And thanks for your help so far fluffy!
When you look at it in terms of minutes it doesn't seem much of a difference but when you extrapolate that relationship into months and years it gets very big indeed. Every year on island equals approximately 15.5 in the real world. Thus 16 on island years equals (16 x 15.5)248 years in the real world.
But if that were true, the calander on the freighter wouldn't say 24th December 2004. It would have the 'off island date'. And when Desmond rang Penny, it wouldn't have been 2004 and therefore he wouldn't have kept his promise to ring her on that date

Thats what I thought initally but wouldnt it be the other way round? Because the freighters sent something that took 2 mins off-island time to get there but took 31 mins on-island time to get there. And when the helicopter didnt get there for over a day, daniel said "how long you think they have been gone isnt necesaarily how long they have actually been gone."
So what Im saying is the ratio should be the other way round I think. Because everything on the island is taking a lot less time off island.
See what Im saying Fluffy or anyone else? I dont think Im explaining it properly. I think the ratio is correct but just the other way round.

Yeah thats true, its the same time.
Well maybe it is all the present time except when you have side effects, then you go elsewhere?? to the past or present?
And also, wasnt kates mum ill when kate last went to see her? so kate always knew she was ill?

I can't argue that as I'm only going by the figures I was given, but even if the ratio were the other way round the date on-island and off-island shouldn't be the same. As far as I understand it the losties have been on the island for a prceived 90+ days, they crashed on 22/9/04 and they now think it is 24/12/04. So if time were passing faster .on the island than in the real world it would only be about 4/10/08. If we turn the ratio around the other way.
Also, if that were the case then Danielle would only have been on the island for just over a year in 'real-world' terms.

they crashed on sept 22 the day the show aired so if you add 94 days you get xmas eve proving they are in the same timeline. Cuse & lindhoff confirmed that they want the show to be in current time in an interview so that when you look back in years to come it all seems relative
Maybe the interface between the island and the real world warps time. So the perceived passage of time is the same on both sides and the time difference is only encountered when things attempt to go THROUGH the interface. However I hypothesized (in a thread on 1/3/08) that there may also be wormholes which would facilitate instant transfer, hence no delay in the communication between the island and the ship.
