yeah, i was really shocked that Alex died, I really didnt think it would happen, and I actually felt a bit sorry for Ben, he really thought he was talking his way out of it for her.

im thinking the "rule" thing was you never shoot family member or something like that thats why his going after penny now.
sawyer is too nice now dont like it and i hate the fact they calling him james now sawyer is much cooler

Thought this was a good episode got to find out loads and a lot of action happened.

I love the way Sawyer risked his life and stood up for Claire and Hurley, proving he does care for other people. I thought it was really sweet and added another dimension to his character.

It was nice to see Ben's manipulative attempt at talking his way out of something fail, I think he controls people with his ways too much and needs a hint that he can't talk his way out of everything for his own selfish reasons all the time, and with disastrous consequences. Obviously not nice to see Alex shot, I didn't think he would actually do it.

I find it interesting how Ben and Charles must have known each other or at least crossed paths in the past. I think the rule is that they have obviously waged war between themselves over this island and they've agreed to leave family out of it. Someone else said this but I can't remember who sorry :-)

I thought it was ridiculous how Claire survived that explosion, without any serious injuries at all.

I think that the fact that Ben can control the smoke monster suggests it is not a supernatural entity, but a scientific one.

Is there something hidden about Jack's illness?

Interesting that Bernard knows morse code, but not really unusual. I thought Faraday was a bit silly to lie about what the morse code said. To me it seemed obvious Bernard knew something about it because he was the one who mentioned it! Also, why did the boat say the doc was fine when he obviously wasn't?

I'm guessing Charles and Ben had a little science experiment going then they fell out and BOOM worse enemy's.

This was a shocker of an episode, everything that I had predicted might happen failed and I did not see Alex's death coming. Does this also mean Rouseau is confirmed dead? and if not, what will she do with-out her beloved daughter?

A lot of hints to time travelling were given by Ben and how he manipulated poor Sayyid.

I also thought it was pretty stupid Claire survived the blast - maybe she suffers from concussion later or something and has to give Aron away to kate?

Oh and I think the reason the said the doctor was ok may ahve something to do with the time difference of the island and outside world - either that or they r just lying to cover up?

Perhaps, like Michael, the Island wasn't going ot let her die. Though it is the second time she nearly has. Desmond failed to mention whether Clare died when Charlie drowned, or who would save her then....

Sawyer has a changing role alright and i forsee a big change for him( looks in crystal ball).

Ben was so cool in it and now we get into all the games and the real idea behind the show, Ben vs Charles and why. I cant wait to see how it unravels

its been bugging me so i thought id discuss , the way ben woke up in the desert was exactly the same as jack woke up after the crash ive watched the scene again from season one and it is very very similar , the makers of lost said a long time ago that the scene when jack woke up has significance. my theory is what if that is jack coming back to the island after realising that he had to get back , maybe he travelled the same way as ben did somehow. kind of makes sense but doesnt if you know what i mean. it would mean this is jacks second time on the island.

Poor Alex I knew it was gonna happen but it was very sad to watch. I even felt sorry for Ben.
Also felt sorry for Sayid at Nadia's funeral but I was suprised that he chose to help Ben. I think Ben may be lying though and he just told Sayid it was Widmore's men who killed her.
I liked Saywer in this episode it showed his softer side with the whole saving Clare and Hurley thing. Quite touching.Ben kicking butt in the Sahara was good. Smoke monster was brilliant Yay!.

Does Ben really control Smokey? Maybe he can just release him rather than control what he does.
Is Ben doing a spot of time travelling himself?
Why did the island belong to Widmore?
Where is Penny that Widmore could say "you'll never find her".
How does Ben know that Hurley has seen the cabin?
Why does Ben need Locke to go to see Jacob with him?
Why is Daniel lying about the message from the boat?
The Docter from the boat, what was that all about?

I didn't see this Ep9 discussion thread I shall just copy and paste my review from the other one

Ok I just watched the episode and I'm about to post alot so if you cba reading it, the whole episode was 10/10.

Ok first off, I love with everything in me, Sawyer (I finally got my Saywer fix after such a lack of him in recent episodes), this was my favourite he's ever been in an episode (and that, as you may know is saying something) He was perfect he had everything today, his one liners, his broody, kick ass, mood and his awesome, protective mood. The way he put his life on the line for both Claire and Hurley I think I just died ("If you touch one hair on his curly head, I'll kill you" - Such an 'Aww' Moment for me) and I also might have to start shipping Claire and Sawyer as a couple considering I felt all warm and fuzzy when he called her sweetheart and he spend the entire episode ensuring her, and Aarons saftey, and how Claire clearly trusts him with her life. Cute cute cute.

Next I'm gonna go on about how awsome Ben was in this episode, (btw the fact he controls BSmokeyM - Epic, Epic Win) I felt so sorry for him when Alex died and he went by her corpse - must admit I cried (but thats not really a big deal for me, I find something to cry about on every episode) though I knew what was going to happen I kept thinking to myself GO BEN GO when the man was telling him to come towards him or he'd shoot her. But what can you do. Omg at the beginning when he was in the Sahara Desert and he just kicked those two guys asses in thirty seconds flat and then in the next flashfoward when he was like a spy taking photos at the fueneral, I was just thinking, Ben is the coolest person ever, he's like James Bond and Indiana Jones in one So yeah, this was my favourite episode for Ben also.

Other Things I Loved: Sayid in a suit .Bernard - Morse code, Sherlock Holmes hero! Hurley and Claire. ALEX - So Did not deserve to die, she was a great character that could have had so much more. Smokey - Revenge, Hells Yeah. The random Losties we didn't know that randomly got shot Lolz Charles Widmore, lol ok I know we're not supposed to like him but first off I have mad love for Alan Dale because he's been in nearly every show I love, and I don't think he's the bad guy.

Things I Didn't Like That Much: No Desmond lol ok I know he's on the boat and stuff, but I still missed him I got my Sawyer fix now I want my Dezzie fix. The guy who shot Alex - I hope Smokey gave him a slow and painful death. Locke, now this is weird for me as I'm usually I huge Locke fan but first off, I hated how he was just going to stand by and let Ben shoot Hurley when Hurley was trying to open the door for Sawyer and Claire, and then again he was going to shoot Sawyer (which lost him about as many points as you can lose in my books) Jack, Omg so now what? He has some deathly food poisoning oh Wooo now we can have another episode entirley devoted to Jack with his boring flashbacks/flashfowards as he tries to fight a deadly disease back on the Island. Wooooo - not. Kate (borderlining hate her now and I still can't pull myself away from the Skate ship though) Daniel and Charlotte, Dudes, there Losties, there always one step ahead of you and they WILL bring you down in the end. The Freighters. Just coz. You Know. They Suck.

Ok I warned you it would be long and I have had Wayyyy to much caffine today so I'm fairly hyper, mix that with Lost and you get a twitching freak (thats me) that likes to type alot (thats me again.)

This season has been giving us some answers up til now - and this episode brought us right back to the questions!!

For me the biggest single question this episode is the 'relationship' between Widmore and Ben. The idea that Widmore knew of ('owned') the isalnd before Ben came along. I agree with a previous poster the only explanation i could come up with for this one was that Widmore is /was DHARMA. But i also had this strange sci-fi feeling as I watched their encounter...almost as if they were not really normal middle aged men-as if they had been alive for a lot longer!!

The idea of them having 'rules' too. Up til now I assumed all that Ben knew of Widmore was found out from skullduggery and research (like planting Michael on the boat / Mikhail etc) but now it seems they know each other....

ALSO... they both know that Ben CANNOT KILL Widmore! Can Widmore kill Ben?? Or is he just wanting to capture him and get him out of the way? Ben tells Locke that the men after them wouldn't dare to try to kill him!

And if there is previous history between these 2 and the island!! Then surely this does make Ben the good guy doesn't it? The island won't let Michael kill himself - the messages to Hurley via Charlie etc...

A strange episode in the way that the characters we have invested in for 3 series seem almost perephial characters now. Pawns like the preverbial chess game.

Really hoping we get to see Jacob again soon. He holds a few answers I think.

And although my initial reaction to the idea Ben might kill Penny was 'Leave her alone'. I have to say Game on to the writers. That is a quite possibly explosive situation!

Throwing out an idea here!!

This episode's flashforwards took place before 'The Economist'. In that episode Ben makes a comment about Sayid letting his emotions / conscience get in the way and it being disasterous. Could this possible refer to Sayid killing / attemping to kill Penny - and allowing his feeings for Des to cloud them!!

Also the order of this episode's flashforwards. That flashforward to Ben / Widmore - could that exchange have happened before the other flashforwards. He threaens to find Penny and then goes off to recruit Sayid to help?? Not sure about that one!!
