Somebody must've known where the island was at some point if only to decide to build all those hatches on it and instal people in one of em to press the button. And someone must still know where it is if food parcels are being dropped there (think we have to assume that the food-drop they discovered a few episodes ago had been done recently as surely they would've stumbled across huge pile of food before otherwise).

The real Henry Gale was crossing the Pacific, Oceanic 815 was over the Pacific, Desmond went missing in the Pacific...
