What is your favourite food?

What is your dislike?

And what might have you hated at one time but now adore, and vice versa.

One example for me is: I didnt like weetabix at all, but with the addition of hot milk became one of my favourites!

As a kid, I used to HATE tomatoes. Now I love a really good tomato salad with basil and dressing.

I HATE anchovies, olives and capers, which is a bit of a bummer cos I love Medditeranian food.

My all-time favourite is a full roast dinner with all the trimmings, especially beef and Yorkshires.

When I was a child I used to love bread and butter covered in sugar. The very thought of it now makes me feel sick.
Another thing I hate is chicken pie. As far as i'm concerned, the word chicken, and pie should never be used in the same sentence!

I know what you mean, Titanium - my mother used to dunk bananas in a plate of sugar.

REVOLTING!!!!

Mmm bananas dipped in sugar sounds good to me! Razz

I cannot stand lamb, think it's the smell of it cooking that puts me off. Parmesan, or any other strong cheese makes me gag. Olives and grapefruit..think that's about it.

My favourite food since I was a bambino is french toast, with ketchup. Smoked salmon. Heinz tomato soup...and after being to England I've got a major thing for Tikka Massala. You don't really get it here.

I never liked cauliflower or cabbage as a child, although I think that might've been my Nanna having boiled it for three weeks. I love them now!

Me too with the labm karenjet. I was forced into eating it as a child and never got the 'taste' for it. I've tried it many times as it seems to be everyone's fave, but it's just the actual flavour of the meat I really dislike.

As a kid I hated eggs. Kept trying them intermittently over the years and finally aged about 20 I started to like them. Also didn't like mushrooms, probably their texture.

I don't have a current favourite food as I go through stages.

OMG QS - you just reminded me of my biggest hate of all time - cooked egg white.

I can't bear the smell, the texture, the taste - it's the Devils bellybutton cheese as far as I'm concerned.

I won't let anyone else fry an egg for me - I have to do it myself, so I can just separate it and get rid of all the white so I just fry the yolk. Funnily enough, I don't mind it in omelettes or souffles etc..

IT IS HORRIBLE AND IT SHOULD BE A BANNED SUBSTANCE!!!

I can't stand it if the egg white isn't cooked properly if someone does you a fried or poached egg. Makes me heave! Big Grin

URGH... horrible... just the thought makes me feel sick. Eek

I also HATE fat on meat, or finding gristle in sausages or mince, makes me retch BIG time. That was one of the reasons I gave it up for so long, and even now I prefer Quorn sausages and burgers, cos you know you're not going to gip on a lump of gristle. EWWWWWWW!!!

Oh god yeah, me too. My mum stopped giving me chops in the end cos by the time I'd stripped them of all bone and fat I was left with a 50p sized bit of meat. Big Grin

Felt awful too a few months back my boyfriend did me this dish with pork and rice but he left bits of fat on every single piece of pork. I had to do a dissection exercise before I could tuck in.

It's what puts me off choosing a stew or pie if I go out anywhere because it will put me off the entire meal.

As for sausages, if I come across any gristle then I never, ever buy that brand again!

Urgh... so true...

I don't buy pre-packed pies or sausage rolls for that very reason. AND I have to cut off every single piece of fat off meat, it can get a tad embarrassing when someone's cooked for you, and you're sat there dumping the stuff on the side of your plate. Even bacon fat I can only stomach if it's VERY crispy.

The wierd thing is that I LOVE pork crackling! I'd eat the whole thing if allowed to.

Go figure... Roll Eyes

Love my hubby's pasta dishes - veggie lasagne or cheesy/tomatoey pasta bake. Also warm, buttered crusty bread - can't beat it!
Don't eat any type of meat and agree with the comments about lamb smelling nasty.
As a child I didn't like pasta at all but can't get enough of it now.

If you look in the Mrs O's Minestrone thread, mrsam, I've bunged some good veggie recipes in there for Sloppy - or Green Fairy as she's now known. My Dads veggie moussaka is GORGEOUS.

I've got a thing about mashed veg at the mo, parsnip, carrot and swede with tons of butter and a splash of milk and loads of pepper. My poor husband is sick of it, but I could cheerfully live on it.

Sprouts. Who the hell decided they were edible??? Urrgh....

Sprout sandwiches? now that's just wrong Confused Worst food has to be tripe, never tasted it but seeing it in the butcher's makes me heave.

Tripe is just... grim.

It looks horrible, smells foul, and I can't even begin to imagine what it tastes like.. *feels sick*

Ever smelled dog food with tripe in it? That should give you an incentive to stay right away from it.

Sprout sarnies? Hmmm, weird, but don't knock it til you've tried it I guess. Not that I'm going to.

Tripe is pretty vile. I had it in France when I did a french exchange as a kid. Having been brought up proper, I ate whatever they gave me. Big Grin

I know the feeling.

I remember when I was about 9, and my whole family went on holiday and stayed with my Mums cousin and her husband in France. She (Myra - LOVELY lady Big Grin) made us snails with garlic butter. I nearly threw up at the thought, but tried them, and they were GORGEOUS!
