I've got 1036 peeps coming over for my daughters birthday, so it's grab whatever you can time...
| |

I know what you mean about the same old, Minkey... can't wait for the summer when we can get a barbie going - me next big project is building one in the garden, got a space mapped out and the bricks to build it with..
I have flatly refused to cook ANYTHING tonight - birthday girl has a revolting dry cough, and is too busy with her new pressies to want more than a bowl of chicken soup, I've had some of yesterdays left-over beef stew and veggies, and hubby is more than capable of doing some oven chips when he gets in and heating up some of the stew, while I go out to help the lady I care for to bed.
Though knowing what he's like, I'll come home to a burnt out shell of a house.

Think I might do the ham, egg and potato bake tonight - I need starch....
And a weeks worth of sleep.
| |

Sounds good, Sizz - think I might do that Saturday, cos it's hubbys long weekend off this time around, and he's earned a treat.

Aaarrh! Thats nice mrs o, but what about your well deserved treat!! Oh yes, sorry, that happened on Valentines yeh! Tonite is quite interesting..... I'm having warmed up take-away, and TWS is cooking mushroom curry, and egg fried rice!! Don't panic, its just cos, where I have cut down my eating, I had about 4 containers of leftovers to eat, so todays the day, obviously, I hope I won't eat all 4. Nah, we had hoped son would eat some, but as its Friday NITe, he's out already, doing whatever, spending who knows, and drinking for all of us, no doubt. R.I.P. Charlie Stubbs R.I.P. Hi Minkey, your tea sounds good 4 choices eh, I'm afraid mine was ordinary baked potato and cheese but that was all we fancied. Tomorrow I've got a nice leg of lamb, doing that with dauphinoise potatoes and mashed swede & carrots and a nice bottle of wine. I've had a couple of stressful days so looking forward to it. Enjoy your week-end everybody.

ooh smut-fest! Thanks for the reminder about the clocks, Minkey, totally forgot.... D'oh! Each for his own tonight, went to the pub for lunch, had a steak that was like a piece of old leather and no sauce , Lou had chicken nuggets and chips and beans, and hubby went for the 3 course pig-out - mushrooms with garlic dip, pork steak with veg and chips, and jam roly-poly, the great squidge. IF anyone wants anything to eat tonight, they can bloody well get it themselves.

That sounds rather different sizz not sure if I'd be lured by it, even though I love all the ingredients!! Tonite we are having.......CHILLI cooked of course by the one and only TWS Last nite, I'm afraid the devil took over once again, and we had a take-out AGAIN!! Mind you, I have been good lately, and only ate abit of it, and freezed the rest for another time. R.I.P. Charlie Stubbs R.I.P. Snuffles/Padfoot TWS, my man

Tonite is Roast nite, which we didn't think mite happen....cos our oven gave up the ghost... but luckily,TWS knows a man that can!! Who, bless him, came out and fixed the problem pronto. And even though it will be rather late, we are still having roast chicken etc....however, with all the hecticness of this dilema, who knows how hungry we may be!! That said, son is having spag bol, as is experiencing MAN FLU!! R.I.P. Charlie Stubbs R.I.P. Snuffles/Padfoot TWS, my man

Not the dreaded MAN-FLU!!! It's incurable, you know. Apparently. Had some really yummy lamb and mint burgers last night from the butchers, with roasties, mixed mashed veg and gravy made with me home-grown mint in it. Tonight we are having spag bol with home-grown basil in it. Does anyone see a theme developing here? Come the weekend, Dad is bringing his bbq over and I am going to do a massive butterflied leg of lamb, and other butchery type stuff and loads of salady stuff, cos I'm cooking for 10. HELP!!!!

Aawwww mrs o, between you and your dad, I'm sure all will go well, hopefully the weather will tooo, or is it an indoor bbq. Mind you saying that, after todays weather, I was definitely imagining the bbq season, and my mouth was watering at just the thought, you could even smell the season in the air today, if you know what I mean.... Tonite Chicken nosh... got so much chicken over after last nites roast, especially as son didn't have any, will have enough for tomoz nite tooooo! R.I.P. Charlie Stubbs R.I.P. Ooh that sounds good, Minkey - what does that involve? I love left-overs.
Cheesy topped cottage pie for us tonight, with mushrooms in it for a change, and broccoli.
| |

Dads bbq has a lid on it, so it can be left in the garden to do it's own thang if the weather is pants.
Roll on the summer, and my cr***y shoulder getting better, so I can carry on building me own barbie, which I just started doing.

Oh I wouldn't get that excited mrs o, chicken nosh can be whatever you like really, all we do is chop up the leftover chicken, legs, breast, wings, etc. put in casserole dish, either add mushrooms and onions, or not, and add tin or tins of chicken soup/chicken mushroom, put in oven for about 45-60 mins, and serve with rice, its just like chicken supreme really, and as said can be as inventive or boring as you like, depending on what you have in cupboards/fridge!! Nothing compared to all your culinary delights!! R.I.P. Charlie Stubbs R.I.P. Snuffles/Padfoot TWS, my man

I dunno - sounds really nice, Minkey, and darned easy, sort of thing you can throw together and shovel down yer necks at the end of the day.
Tomorrow is roast chicken or is it pterodactyl breasts (they're flimmin MASSIVE), tomato salad (husband hates it, but tough - got 3 basil plants that are going nuts and deserve to earn their keep somehow), coleslaw with onion, grated carrot and sultanas, and new spuds with butter. Got 3 loaves of cheese topped French bread in the freezer, so might get one of those out as well.

Sounds like there's some tasty meals on the go girls. Things ain't cooking in my kitchen as the song says, so been using up stuff from the freezer. A question for mrs o I didn't know you could grow basil here, I always buy the little plants from Asda and they usually last about a week and then shrivel and die on me. Can you give me any advice?
| |

The way I did it was to buy 2 plants from Tesco, they are really big, re-pot them in lots of fresh compost and water them to death, put them in the conservatory and wait to see what happened! Keep them warm while they sort their lives out,and then you can re-pot them them even more when they grow. Basil is quite hardy, so you can plant it outside, but it does spread like a weed, so I think it's better to keep it in pots.
The nicest bits of basil are the tips, the older leafs tend to be a bit bitter, but you can make cuttings from them.
I'm hoping to sell some of my herbs off, as I have so many, lack of space and a greenhouse is me problem.

I did a useless shop this week as I was hungry when I went and ended up getting myself a curry for that night's tea and not particularly worrying about the rest of the week. Consequently I have 3 large field/flat mushrooms and some potatoes and, er, that's about it. I think I will roast the mushrooms with a little olive oil and some black pepper and eat them just so. Or on toast. Then if I'm hungry later I can make some mashed potatoes. Oh, I do have onion and garlic, I can have field mushrooms roasted with garlic and oniony mash.

Sounds like a plan, QS!
Big flat mushrooms are lovely if you roast or grill them covered with garlic butter, sprinkle with parsley and some salt and pepper, and bung them in a soft bap - bit like a veggie steak sandwich.
Have the kitchen roll handy though, cos it's flimmin messy to eat!
