Had a good day today!
Went shopping with a friend and to a pub for lunch after - had a delish steak pie with chips and peas Razz

Stopped off on the way home to pick up something light for tonight - bought some lovely fresh multigrain rolls and gammon ham. So just polished off a couple of them, one with mustard, the other with my luvverly homemade coleslaw! I just cant bear the ready made coleslaw you get in the supermarket Frown has to be homemade with a squitz of lemon Big Grin

Me coleslaw is famous in my family dont ya know Wink

Sounds lubberly, Angel!

Fruit crumble... my Mum used to make apple crumble for Britain, she used to put cinnamon in it - think I might have a bash at making one - note to self - don't forget the 4 tons of whipped cream!

And I totally agree with you about ready-made coleslaw, it's the devils pubes *is sick on the spot*

Got loads of left over chicken from last night, so I might do me own coleslaw and some new spuds and have it with that.

Cinnamon is just the bee's knee's where apples are concerned mrs_o !!

On another note...... I CANNOT/WILL NOT eat that bliddy crap coleslaw a la tesco, asda, sainsburys or any other for that matter!!

Homemade - shredded cabbage, grated carrot, finely sliced onion, a good mayo, squeeze of lemon is all you need. URGH to the other stuff hehehe!

Spooky - that's exactly how I make mine! Big Grin

The only known substance that I can guarantee that will give me wind, is cabbage, that's why I make coleslaw so often, cos my husband walks in, spots it, and walks out again, in case he gets farted on. (I'm horrid like that Ninja)

I LURRVVVES talking about food Big Grin

I do find time to clean.... occasionally Ninja

Got my mum popping round on her way home from work tomorrow, i asked if she'd like to stop for dinner.... she said yes of course! Big Grin Not sure where my love of cooking came from - it certainly wasn't mum as she hates it. Dad is a great cook, but his skills in that area only surface once in a blue moon Roll Eyes

Anyway, with mum due round, i am going to do a lasagne (i gave her a choice between that & spag bol & she turned her nose up at the spag bol Roll Eyes), garlic bread and me leftover coleslaw Big Grin

Sounds like a plan! Cool

You're like me - I love talking about food - I think my love of cooking came from when my parents used to take us to France every year, and encouraged us to eat lots of different stuff. Mum was a great cook, she'd really make a big thing about every meal, and on special occasions, she would really push the boat out.

Dad, on the other hand, used to be a TERRIBLE cook, but over the years he's got a lot better and loves cooking, especially since Mum died and he's had to fend for himself. He does an amazing barbequed butterflied leg of lamb, I'll nab the recipe off him. My brother is also an amazing cook. Must just run in the family, I suppose..

Now my husband - that's a different story... Big Grin

Hi angel, Do you know I've never even thought about doing my own coleslaw. I will now that you've said how easy it is, thanks for that.

mrs o - I'm laughing at your little problem with cabbage, with me it's cauliflower.

I just don't fart, Magsy! It's one of my major downfalls in life... cabbage is the only option. Now belching is a different matter altogether... Big Grin

Try home-made coleslaw - it's lubberly! I usually bung a handful of currants in, that really IS nice.

Tonight - my daughter has demanded Mums home made macaroni cheese, which has been done 1635484 times before, so in goes some onion and fried bacon, tomatoes on the top, just to liven it up a bit... and a dollop of English mustard.

SHEEZ I really am starting to sound like that muppet Jamie Oliver...

*Starts to get worried about self* Frown

Tis very easy Magsy - the coleslaw! You have to make sure its a white cabbage tho, no other variety will do the job really. Plus you dont really need much cabbage, i always put more onion and carrot than cabbage, but its all down to preference i guess. Dont have to use lemon either, i just find it adds a nice zing Razz

Oh and i know its extremely calorific, but full fat mayo is the best to use, for me anyway - just doesnt taste the same done with the low cal ones Ninja

EekDISASTER ALERT!!! DISASTER ALERT!!! MEEP MEEP MEEP!!!Eek

I only bloody managed to burn the cheese sauce for the macaroni cheese - my daughter still ate it because she was starving, but to me, it smelled and tasted like burning socks, my husband came home, took one sniff, and is doing a detour to the chippy when he's finished work.

CURSE all the folk that always call me at tea time!!! GET OFF THE BLOWER - YOU ARE RUINING MY REPUTATION AND OUR TEA!

Shame about your cheese sauce mrs o, macaroni is one of my favourites too. I always make it with Seriously strong cheddar and put a swirl of double cream in.

angel - don't worry I'll be using full fat mayo in the coleslaw. I don't do low fat anything it's just not the same.

Good for you, Magsy! Big Grin

I'm a rare breed that is actually trying to get fatter, so it's only my daughter that gets the lower fat stuff, but I won't use that in cooking, she has a low sugar diet cos she can't tolerate it very well (it sends her doolally) and has low fat crisps and snacks etc.

I still haven't looked at the saucepan... Eek

Dunno what to make tonight - think another vat of soup might be in order, with this weather..

Macaroni cheese is my speciality. And it still tastes just as nice with half fat cheese, skimmed milk and I add mustard powder and chop some onions and squish them and add the juice in too.

I'm making it easy for myself today, got a beef casserole in the oven will chuck in some potatoes later to save on the washing up. Everybody eats it so don't have to make different things.

Sounds like a plan, Magsy - I'm all for cutting down on washing pots! We is lucky and got a dishwasher for our wedding.. *tries not to be smug*

*Slaps own fat-ish belly*

That's one vat of minestrone made, and 3 bowls swallowed by me, with cheese and 4 slices of toast. Count-down to fart blast-off has just started. Pity my immediate family... Big Grin

Thats a great idea Karen!
Im no chef but i love cooking and experimenting with new ideas and i think im quite a good cook.

I have loads of recipes - a lot of them in my head i have to say - i dont really follow recipes as such, just experiment. Thats how i learnt.

Saying that.... i do have a Jamie Oliver book that was bought for me the xmas before last *waits for mrs_o to shoot me* Ninja Big Grin

Anyway, if you have anything in mind you'd like to cook, just ask - im sure one of us could help you out with a recipe or 10 Smile
