My husband and I, gosh that sounds like the queen, had this conversation when it was her day to cook. I agree, everyone has made allowances for her and catered accordingly but she didn't for them. Although it did mean that they tried dishes that they may not have ordinarily. It has happened quite a lot during the last series, there was, if I remember correctly a lady who needed Kosher fare and some of the contestants were really good, doing a bit of research etc to accommodate her needs so it was quite interesting.

SeaLady said there is one vegetarian on the show at the moment. Wrong, there are no vegetarians on the show at the moment! Sue ate seafod which is not vegetarian. I am pretty sure a genuine vegetarian would not be allowed on this show.
Having got that off my chest ,I must say I enjoyed the programme immensely. I even liked Ernie who is at least very honest.

Love & Peas, Noncane -
From what I have been led to believe vegetarians do eat seafood. It's vegans that don't and there have been vegans on the show.
I could be wrong though about veggies and vegans but I'm pretty sure that's the case
Vegetarians do not consume animal flesh - fish are animals! Veggies do not consume any animal products where the animal has been slaughtered, so as well as all meat, poulty, fish etc, veggies do not consume anything with things like gelatine in them.
Vegans do not consume any animal products at all, this would encompass all of the above and include milk, cheese, eggs, honey etc.
People who exculde meat from their diet but include fish are called Pescatarians and are absolutely not vegetarians.
I excluded meat from my diet for 7 years (my weakness for roast beef was me downfall), but I ate fish, eggs and dairy products and didn't consider myself to be a true vegetarian. I love vegetarian food, especially meat replacements like Quorn sausages and burgers, which I would still rather eat now, but to have called myself a true veggie would have been a load of tosh.
I do agree that maybe this person should have been asked to cook meat based dishes, as it's a matter of respect for everybodys dietary wishes. If it's a problem with handling meat, there's always latex gloves!

I had a vegetarian neighbour and her hubby was a meat lover. She couldln't touch his meat, but she always cooked his meals for him. She used kitchen tongs. I thought she was great to cater for him. There are always ways of getting round things.
BTW., Thanks for clearing up the veggie/vegan thing. Clarifies it much better for me now
A lot of vegetarians don't have a problem cooking meat for their family but I think it is surely a good idea for the other contestants on the show to sample veggie food otherwise pointless have a veggie/vegan on the show! Hopefully it proves that it can be just as tasty but too often the meat eaters are challenged enough and use the old faithfuls - veggie lasagne and rissotto
I am a vegetarian and cook meat for all my family. I dont have an issue about it. People thought when I had my daughter that i would bring her up a veggie but I decided not too as it was MY choice not to eat meat and I do believe that meat in a diet is beneficial for the young, though a proper veggie diet can offer a healthy vitamin and mineral based diet.
I would cook for all the only thing I do not favour to cook are brains and heart. I dont even have a problem touching meat. I gave it up as a matter of principal, I am sure that if I tasted meat I would still enjoy the flavour, but I love to see animals alive but understand there is a circle of life and food chain going on!!
I am a serious meat eater but I still find some meats dificult to handle and get Mr H to deal with them for me, it started when I was pregnant, but that was 24 years ago! I couldn't stand the smell of the butchers shop (yes, we still had them in those days!) Sorry, Mrs O, I have read many of your posts and have a lot of respect for you but, I do not understand why anyone would buy/eat/enjoy 'false' meat; either do it or don't!
I think that the issue of vegetarians and fish has been addressed. Vegetarians don’t eat fish, so the woman featured on the show was not a vegetarian.
I’m quite surprised to see that there are a lot of people who believe that vegetarians have an obligation to cook meat. Now I think there are two reasons why this idea is a bit silly.
The first is that since I’ve been a vegetarian for ten years now, I wouldn’t have a clue about how to cook meat. It could just be a few badly cooked steaks, or it could be a few extremely dodgy steaks, and everyone leaves with food poisoning.
The second reason is that vegetarians have a moral opposition to the eating of meat. Whereas for the non-vegetarian, there is no imperative that demands that meat must be present on their plate. So it stands to reason that the vegetarian’s request for a vegetarian meal is a reasonable one, whilst the non-vegetarian’s request for a meal which includes meat is a petty one.
The issue of what to do with a vegetarian at a dinner party is one which involves some mutual respect on both sides.
I would be extremely offended if somebody demanded that I put meat in my food. It would be as though they were saying that my cooking was rubbish. And if they complained before they even tasted it, then I would be doubly offended. I doubt that a non-vegetarian would have any reason to be offended if a vegetarian simply wanted a dish that matched their dietary requirements. It’s not a lot to ask for. And I’d be willing to help out hosts who had trouble, or at least suck it up if they did cook something rubbish, and accept that at least they tried.
It’s one of those issues where there is an imbalance, and I don’t believe that it is right to say that the imbalance should be addressed by having the vegetarian cook meat. Most vegetarian kitchens lack the tools needed to cook and eat meat anyway. (Carving knife, steak knives) It’s a bit like going to a kosher household. You’re not going to ask them to cook bacon sandwiches for you, in return for you accommodating their dietary requirements. You’ve just got to get on with it. And if you do have minority dietary requirements, then it stands to reason that you respect the host for their efforts.
