Hi guys...

I just thought i'd start this thread as in my family there is an ongoing 'joke' regarding my 18 yr old brothers eating habits!

BUT thinking about it seriously, it is a little worrying.... so just wondered if any of you know anyone quite this fussy! Roll Eyes

My brother is an extremely fussy eater and has been from the word GO - as a young child, all he would eat was cheese spread sandwiches and Walkers cheese & onion crisps. Oh and Jammie Dodgers - basically nothing else. My mum breast fed him until he was 2 1/2 yrs aswell Eek and i think this may have a lot to do with why he is so fussy!

Now at 18 - he wont touch any of the above (especially the boobies Big Grin Big Grin) and his diet LITERALLY consists of the following:

Chilli con carne (just the mince and chilli seasoning/sauce with spaghetti pasta or plain rice - no kidney beans, tomatoes or onions)

Chicken Fajitas (again just the chicken fried with a spicy powder - no veg)

Beef Roast (just the beef, roast potatoes and yorkshires - no veg or gravy)

McCoys Steak flavour crisps

Pepperoni takeaway pizza (again all onions & peppers removed)

Chicken Tikka Masala from the Indian Takeaway with Pilau Rice

Steak and chips (french fries only)

Drinks - Full fat Coca Cola (no other brand will suffice) and Apple Juice

Im not joking - that is all he will eat!
Despite this dire diet, he is very healthy and active but i cant help worrying about his health in the future

Should i be worried ? Any ideas anyone ?

Confused

Blimey - he sounds like a terminal meat-a-holic!! Eek

Does he like stirfrys, Angel? Might be a good way to get some veg into him.

My brother used to live on fish finger sandwiches and dope. He's a fantastic cook now, maybe you could get your bro a simple recipe book, I got my hubby one for Christmas, it's called Beyond Baked Beans by Fiona Beckett, its one of a series designed for peeps that just can't/won't cook, mainly students.

Ok - he still hasn't actually COOKED anything out of it yet, but it planted the idea in his mind.... Roll Eyes

Okay, well he's obviously progressed since his cheese spread and crisps so don't worry too much.

Okay it's not ideal, but he is young and as you say, he is active.

Just wait and watch when he meets a lovely lady and see how he changes. I promise you that will happen. I saw big changes in many ways in my brother as he approached his late twenties. That's in terms of food and attitude. He's lovely now (he was an arse a lot of the time before!). I swear the love of a good woman does wonders for a man's diet.

I think he has age on his side. If you cook for him ever, try adding stuff in his chilli and see if he notices. Do the same with fajitas.

Thank you mrs_o and qs for your thoughts!

He does have plenty of 'the green stuff' in his diet - although not that of the vegetable variety unfortunatly
Ninja Ninja Ninja

And qs - i am hoping he will meet a nice girl and sort himself out but to be honest i cant see any girl putting up with him right now! Big Grin
He's a good lad and all that but a god damn lazy idle one at that! Roll Eyes

Oh forgot to add about stir frys - he can spot an onion a mile off Eek.....

I made a spicy spag bol for the family last week and of course we had onions, garlic, basil & mushrooms added to ours but i had to get a separate saucepan out to do bros in Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

He even noticed (because id stirred his with the same spoon as ours) that a teeny bit of onion had made its way into his! Eek Eek

WELL...... there was an uproar! Eek

My brother was like that re onions. He ate burgers for years (you know the frozen packet ones) and then suddenly found out that they had onions in and refused to eat them any more and would only have ones that specified no onions on the packet. He liked them just fine when he had no idea he was eating them! Big Grin

And he used to insist that the food on his plate was in a particular order. Meat in X spot, veg in X spot, potatoes in X spot and if they weren't he'd have a hissy fit.

I do so like to tease him about it now. Big Grin

I know!! Roll Eyes

Ive said to him loads of times 'do you realise the amount of spices, onions, garlic etc that gets pureed into the indian food you love so much?' but he wont have it

What he cant see cant hurt him (so to speak) Roll Eyes

Wow, I've never heard of such a fussy eating adult before. But I have been watching a programme on bbc about people who will barely eat anything. Farm of fussy eaters I think it's called
Confused

I've got a 10 year old niece, and all she eats is cheerios, chicken nuggets, chips, buttered bread and sweets.

I dunno what to suggest that others haven't already. Except for maybe what they tell you to do with fussy kids, puree cooked vegetables and hide them. I think it's something that's likely to rectify itself though.

I am so lucky in that my daughter LOVES veg - she is a broccoli-holic.

How about he tries something like cauliflower cheese? Sauce, gravy and stuff seem to make veggies less bland, and they're great for dunking spuds in as well. Might be a question of just giving him some ideas on how to liven things up a bit.

( BTW great to talk to you on the blower earlier Angel - you cheered us ill peeps both right up! Big Grin)

That's what I was saying about getting a girlfriend - all it takes sometimes is a change in circumstances - otherwise just purely growing up and becoming a bit more mellow.

I've seen bits of that programme though karenjet (on Harry Hill!), and there's not getting away from the fact that some adults just will never grow out of it.

I remember a friend of my brother's when he was a teen would only eat burgers, beans, chips. He lived with his dad and got away with it. When his dad remarried she put her foot down and he gradually learnt to like other things.
