My grandfather was in the Queen's Westminster Rifles, and died in the Somme, in 1917. Some years ago I went to the County Hall and saw his name on the scroll of honour, however,on my last visit, some 5 years ago, I asked if I could see it, (of course it is now a hotel), and the receptionist said they said no one is allowed to see them now. Has anyone had this problem? Or, any suggestions on how I could see the scroll of honour? With thanks, Jill Mayhew
I did read something about this years ago, shortly after it was sold, I think it bolis down to the owners being Japanese and unwilling to face that area of their past.

Rubbish! In WWI, the Japanese declared war on Germany and were thus our allies.
It seems outragious that you were denied seeing it. And if it is now on private property why weren't proper arrangments made for the memorial when the GLC vacated County Hall?
May be it's a long shot, but you could try writing/phoning/emailing our friendly Mayor of London, Ken Lvingstone. After all he was once leader of the GLC who were housed in County Hall on the South Bank.
Alternatively contact the Evening Standard and make a fuss.
