I'm trying to find info about a relative of mine who was in the British Army. His name was Michael Meehan from Kilkenny, Ireland and I think he died in 1917.I heard a rumour that he was shot by the IRA while on home leave. How can I find out what happened to him and where he is buried.

Only three M Meehans Are listed as dying during the war and of them only one in 1917.
He is 17522 Pte Meehan M. 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers who is buried in Carnoy Military Cemetry on the Somme. His Grave is no Y8.
He may very well have been shot by the IRA while home on leave but that was not the cause of death, otherwise his grave would be in Ireland not France.
The other two M Meehans also died abroad on active service.
