J.A.B. of Hucknall, Notts. makes the following observation:

Having read some of the letters sent to Lost Generation, I see many about trying to find memorials that have gone missing. If channel 4 were to investigate this problem I'm sure it would make an eye opening programme especially if Ian Hislop were to head it.

I know all about this problem and it could open a real can of worms. I have just found that my grandfathers memorial that has 174 first world war soldiers names dedicated on it, is in a lock up garage, where it as been since the church it was in was demolished in 1989. I am now attempting to have it resited, hopefully in a church locally to where these men had lived. This was attempted by a family in 1998 but for some unknown reason it failed. I think a major problem could be cost, but no cost can be greater than that paid by these brave men.

I had been trying to find this memorial for 2yrs with no success but after seeing Ian's channel 4 programme and logging onto your site things started to move. I found a memorial on your site in a church near where my grandfather had lived and although it wasn't the one the old people remembered that it had been saved and pointed me in the direction of where to look.

The point I wish to make is that when these old people die so will the memories. We need some action now so that at the setting of the sun we will remember them.

Totally agree. In the time I have been looking for the memorial with my Great Uncle John Prestons name on his younger brothers and sisters have all died.

I wouldn't mind Ian Hislop getting on our case as we are sure it is out there somewhere. We are still looking for the memorial for Holy Trinity Church Darnall Sheffield. I have also reported another memorial that I found on my travels that was in need of restoration. There is one of those missing also. There should be one for WW1 and two for WW2, there was only one of each.
