Hi Rebel54
As well as attestation papers on line for free at the Canadian Archives you can also access on line for free the actual War Diaries of the individual Canadian Infantry Battalions, Infantry Brigades and Infantry Divisions as well as many other units of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the First World War.
You may not realise it but using the Accession reference to your grandfathers attestation paper ,you can order his service record on line from the Canadian Archives. The record will chart his service carrear from enlistment to discharge including any promotions and demotions, wounds, hospitalisations, disiplinary record and pay and/or pension records. It will also include any records of unit transfers he may have been subject to. Using his service record and the war diaries you should be able to recreate his war service on a day by day basis.
The cost of a service record from the LAC (Library and Archives of Canada) depends on the number of pages in the file, but an average cost including postage is in the region of 30$CAN. The time between ordering a file and receiving it is usualy 4-6 weeks.
If you then want to explore furthur or answer any questions you may have, I recomend 'The Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group' A realy helpful group of like minded individuals. You will find them at
