Where can I find out more about this regiment and what they did during World War 1 ? My ancestor was in "A" Coy 4tn Bn. He was Private R N Budge who died 5/4/1917. My mother told me he was shot for cowardice for refusing to bayonet a young German boy, but his name does not appear on the "Shot at Dawn" website. Also his war grave apparently says "remembered with honour" according to the CWGC site. His death certificate says cause of death "cardiac" which I wondered if this means shot through the heart. I would really like to know more about this regiment and what they did and what really happened to Private Budge.
My grandmother's brother was in this regiment. He was gassed, suffered shell shock and was then in a mental hospital until he died in the 1960s.I think there is a regimental museum on Albert Dock in Liverpool.
The above link will take you to the Museum site and the search pages for soldiers 1914 -18 If you search for RN Budge the following comes back revealing his service number. You can request further information on line with the museum on the results page of your search.
