Ladies and Gents

Looking through all your wonderful opinions posted on this board! I would like you to give some thought on history for the future rather than the past! Perhaps we could debate some of the possibilities of the opinions given. Man for example will never be able to live/exist on anything other than the earth!

Having watched "Star Trek" many times, I have peered into the future.

"Doctor Who" fills in the gaps Ninja

Do you mean as in planet Earth, or earth as in soil, as in could we live in the sea?

Sea could work - I guess. Big cities with shiny lights - anyone seen 'The Abyss' by any chance?

Yes I've seen the Abyss a few times...the film I mean not the Abyss that John of Pathmos discribes.

Yes planet Earth pirate kate! In history Remembering the 15th century, i believe people laughed at the idea or theory that the Earth could be round! Taking Darwins theory of evolution can man/woman develope to survive on anything other than the planet earth! In my opinion man/woman have reached there maximum potential, perhaps we are already in decline? also considering the rate in which man/woman are destroying the Earths enviroment and using up all the Earths resources in pursuit of money, would there be time or enough to develope the things or dreams that science has on offer to travel to distant worlds or is it just a case of money! our history and unintelligent attitude towards things that perhaps cannot be explained sadly lets us down! I could have asked what effect would the melting of the ice caps have on world history? would the world join together as one on the remaining land or would there be a conflict of ideas? Will or did man really step on the moon? It was a suggestion, i thought people might find interesting.

What an excellent thread shapeshifter and raises all sorts of questions. I started becoming very aware of the planet we inhabit and the fragility of life on becoming a parent. You suddenly find yourself imagining what life will be like for your children's children and so on and frankly, it's a terrifying thought! Human's have shown little respect for the natural balance of the planet in recent times but even without taking that into consideration, there is always the threat of natural disasters. No matter how technologically advanced we become, we are still very much at the mercy of our environment.

I think that man will certainly be looking seriously into colonising the moon, possibly within our lifetimes but what will they do once it's been achieved? Will it be a haven for the rich and privileged or somewhere to ship off the undesirable elements of society?

There appears to be little interest for it to be an excellent post, but thanks for the reply anyway! I am sure we both share the same concerns for our children, but i doubt anybody will listen because there will be to much money lost and the fat cat won't get his bonus! sadly that is the only thing of interest to most people! who invented money anyway? what did man do before the invention of money? live of the land i assume? perhaps that was the only thing we was supposed to do? like all other life!

Colonising the moon? I cannot see happening really! and if humankind did there would be arguements over ownership!

Strange how we have crossed the galaxy, and time, only to end up back in pre-history. That is, if natural history has a history. But then again, I suppose we have answered the intrinsinc question here, the history of the future is whatever we are told it is. Media, politics, capitalism will all be definite symbols of the present, not the past, otherwise, why else would we be reading it?

the history of the future, i belive we shall remain upon this earth however i reakon that, we shall colanies other planets not to live but to exsract the minerals. as for natural disasters well they are an inevitabilty, the chances that if the supposed super volcano it would destroy the north American economy. as with any natural disaster it will devistate areas and people will try and move on. the issue however will be china, whether likt the USSR it will destroy it'self or be an econmic threat to the western world.

Well if a large chunk of Tenerife lands in the Atlantic (with the ensuing Tsunami) as predicted, along with the threat of the Yellowstone caldera then North America is looking like a decidedly dodgy place for anyone to live. Eek

I still believe that man's natural urge to conquer will lead him to at least attempt to colonise other planets when technology allows it. Whether or not it's successful is another matter entirely though.

before discussing the history of the future, it would be better if we first defined what history actually is.

We really have dinosaurs today, without any question. You just need the right weather conditions, as I see it, to get huge creatures. And in the ocean, of course, we have huge creatures....this is where the plesiosauruses seem to be today, and perhaps also this fire breathing dragon is still down there -- very rare, but occasionally there.
