Now that is really funny. You get a whole class of students trying to solve a puzzle and then tell them the next day that there isn't really an answer with the grid you gave them.

And you can justify it the next day by saying well I am not really a maths teacher I am a music teacher.

But seriously though, I am still stuck on the first puzzle. I can't get 1 number from what I have tried so far let alone two. I would hope that I can crack this eventually.

Anevem I have come to the conclusion channel 4 probably did not read your email to them properly as the current grid does not make an iota of sense...! I pride myself in having a small dose of brain cells and managed to crack to first code ( I think!!) but decided to get my husband who is a degreed mensa member to have a look even though it his not his thing but bless him he humoured me and he could see an answer in the old grid straight away (took me hours Razz) but cannot see any type of number or pattern in grid 2...so therefore have come to the conclusion channel 4 probably have an automated message and did not read your email properly!

Hang on, are people saying the grid kelliea posted was originally the one used as the second 10 x 10 grid?

I've tried using substitution for the gibberish produced from he first grid and it generates nothing which resembles a number (in words) nor any anagram.

Maybe this an experiment by Ch4 to see how crazy people become trying to break unbreakable codes?

ok guys this is getting ridiculous, i have finally figured it out and i am convinced that the letter grid that c4 originally posted on the competition website is the correct one. for those of you who didn't get to see it, kelliea posted it on page 3 of this thread.

the code and the way to work it out were both used in the italy programme, and are explained on the "following the clues" page.

thanks anavem for your flash of inspiration, it hadn't occured to me to read the indicated letters from left to right on each line! which is exactly what they did in the programme, duh Roll Eyes i just wrote them down as i got them in order and then rearranged them to give me the two numbers! they don't call me a dumb blonde for nothing you know Big Grin.

i finally have a single number, that makes perfect sense and i can only encourage those who have not yet reached that nirvana to continue on, unbowed. there have been an awful lot of helpful comments made throughout this thread, so i would go back and read them carefully.

remember, there were only a couple of codes that were used in the italy programme that could possibly be used in this endevour! and i say again, i truly believe that the first letter grid is the correct one, as it is the only one to give a number and for that to be a happy accident is far too convenient.

i can now sleep easy tonight with no grids, numbers or any of you lot (well, my imaginations idea's of you) disturbing my slumber.

btw, i would like to apologise for my lack of capitals in this post, but my other arm is currently being occupied by a 3 month old with chronic colic!

hopefully i won't get black listed for giving too much away (you are probably thinking i didn't go far enough) but i know how mad it has been driving me for the last 5 weeks!

Mmm interestingly I have not had an email from my friends at Channel4 today. I sent them the 2 girds done via Word with the letters coloured differently - just to prove my point.
I am glad that my comments have helped some people and that most of you agree that the first grid is the correct one as it is all too much of a coincidence.
For those still working on it - there are now so many clues in this thread that you sould work it out.
Best of luck and if I hear anything else from Channel4 I will let you know.

Hurrah, I printed the grid off again, and as I corrected it using kelliea's letters, the code was obvious - I can't believe I didn't see it before... aaargh. Thanks guys, I can sleep tonight, not go to bed thinking about it, back to my Da Vinci puzzles...

The online game is so tough - just starting to get the the hang of it, thanks for all the extra clues.

Its such a great series I can't believe they messed around with the schedule, they've made it is as hard to find as the the treasure.

I'm so glad Alex got kicked off, she's so false and annoying, she doesn't deserve to go to those amazing places.

My money is on Adrian, he's so funny and never gives in, even after that incredible fall in the jungle - do you think he did it on purpose?

I agree furio.
Alex is by far the most annoying Eek I'm so glad she got kicked off the show last week Wink
But i really think Mairianne should win - my university ladies rugby team has started a secret fan club for her... we love her!
And Adrian just falls over because he's old.

Hear hear!

Alex was a shocking state of affairs. She clearly only got on the show cos she'd look a bit bouncy when she runs along. I thought she was ok at first then I realised how horrid she was to everyone. Witch

Furio you're right about the schedule. I was gutted when I couldn't find The Search. It is like a breath of fresh air to see a prog like this and it's mad to hide it away in the schedule.

Adrian is really brave to clamber around everywhere like he does. I hope I'll be as fit and brave when I'm his age!

Simon could be attractive if he wasn't so impatient and scheming and whinging and uncharitable in his attitudes to the other contestants. Of course he just wants to win, but he could try to be a bit nicer.

I have to say that my money is on Marianne as long as she doen't get booted off by the Saskia/Simon team.

Adrian is great, but I think he is too much of an art and history lover. He is far too easily distracted by all the things they are seeing and ends up going off on a huge tangent. But I think that will save him from going in the next programme cos they don't see him as a threat.

I think that Adrian and Marianne should club together, otherwise Saskia and Simon will get rid of Marianne this week and Adrian next leaving them in the final.

And look at how fair Marianne is, she could have jumped in and taken the prize from Saskia when she freaked about the spiders. But she didn't, I think Saskia was shocked by that, possibaly indicating that she wouldn't have played so nice if the tables were turned!

What about Saskia saying that Marianne hasn't got the guts to go against her and Simon, do you think they bully her? she looked really scared at the last poison chalice, as if she was frightened of Simon

yeah saskia is probably like simon - out for herself. they club together when it suits them but if it came down to it they'd stab each other in the back like a shot. mairianne seems nice. but maybe she needs to be a bit tougher!

you're right furio - hadn't seen your post before. i think she is scared. simon obviously has quite a temper. maybe he gets violent when things don't go his way. he does brandish the poisoned chalice a bit like a weapon!

I know one of the contestants really well and I was told that Alex was having an affair with Christian and she only slept with him to keep herself in the show! She was a real back stabber to the other contestants - no one liked her.
I can't wait for tomorrows show.

Simon passing the chalice to Kristian was a pretty clear sign that he knew!

I hope Adrian wins as he genuinely seems in awe of what he is seeing. Saskia is too busy trying to prove how clever she is.
