Was the Weimar Republic destined to fail? Was it solely due to the Treaty Of Versailles?

Just a question that me and a friend were discussing. Would be interesting to know what you think.

The incomplete nature of the German 'revolution' must be considered an important factor. It's why, by the end of the 1920s and early 30s, the country is in the hands of old right wing elites who want something a tad more authoritarian than Weimar.

I'm not at all convinced that Versailles in itself doomed the German democracy.

would need something the length of a Masters thesis to answer the question properly.

simple answer? yes it was destined to fall

We really have dinosaurs today, without any question. You just need the right weather conditions, as I see it, to get huge creatures. And in the ocean, of course, we have huge creatures....this is where the plesiosauruses seem to be today, and perhaps also this fire breathing dragon is still down there -- very rare, but occasionally there.

In order to justify the answer, you would need to look at pre Wiemar politics, the origins of WEimar, the politcs of Weimar and the rise of Nazism. Big Grin Big Grin

I think that Proportional Representation helped lead to Weimar's fall. Hence I'm against bringing that system of government into GB. I've been discussing it in Politics AS level.

Yet Germany still have proportional representation - WHY?? They still have problems from it - look at the whole hung Parliament thing from this year! Crazy!
