I need to write a paper on any event during the 20th century but it has to be concentrated on issues/events in the US. I was thinking about doing something on either the Korean War or the American Civil Rights Movement. Any suggestions on what I should focus on with these events? Thanks
the Korean war you could look at the struggl;e between the political entay in Trueman, and the military as in Mac Aurther, the Civil ights movment has been donwe to death and son you have to be real good.
Is it for Uni or School? Or something else? How many words do you have to write? I am just thinking that there is a lot of small interesting actions the US undertook during the Cold War: the intelligence failures, overestimation of Soviet threat, largely disastrous covert action policy, etc. These actions - despite being directed at the Communist menace, have a legtacy which is damaging the US through to this day.
But it depends what level you need to write the paper at, because you don't want to go into too much detail if you don't need to, or not enough.
Part of my GCSE course is on the Cold War. There are all sorts of interesting events there. As has been said, the Korean War, and also things like the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Berlin blockade and Berlin Airlift, Vietnam War, Hungarian Uprising, Czechoslovakian Uprising etc.
Hope that's given you a few suggestions...

We really have dinosaurs today, without any question. You just need the right weather conditions, as I see it, to get huge creatures. And in the ocean, of course, we have huge creatures....this is where the plesiosauruses seem to be today, and perhaps also this fire breathing dragon is still down there -- very rare, but occasionally there.

Without knowing the level that you are writing at it is hard to suggest as donandjod says. Any topic or event can be approached in a sweeping general way, or with finer focus for higher level study. Either way, pick something that you are interested in and feel some passion for.
I think it's important to consider how easy it will be to research your topic. Look at what the resources are readilly available to you. You might find it helpful to keep a couple of options on the backburner. You can then scan your local/school/college/uni library for what is available; do some internet searches and see what good sites there are and find out if you have any tutors with expertise in a particular area. I don't even know how long you have to do this, but I'd say that you shouldn't be deciding for too long as you need to get on with it. Good luck and let us know what you choose and how you get on.
Thanks for all the help! This paper is for a highschool APUSH class and it has to be about 7-8 pages (double-spaced). I still have time so I haven't completely figured out what I'm going to be doing but I'm starting to focus on the Korean War. I just want to make sure I have a good topic that really sticks with the U.S. side of the war. Thanks for all your suggestions and of course more couldn't hurt
