Greetings all,

just came accross a fascinating website on which it is claimed that the historical Jesus actually was Julius Caesar. If that turns out to be true it will turn the entire history of civilization upside down. see: www.carotta.de
What do you think of it?

I think the author must not be entirely familiar with the theory of Occam's Razor: The simplest explanation is often the true one.

I can only assume it is written by someone with no understanding of either person.

The problems with the carotta web site are its ignorance of three Roman historians Tacitus, Suetonius and Josephus a Jewish rebel fighting against Imperilist Rome up til around 70AD who ended up being a Roman citizen.

These are Historians outside of the New Testament who have documented the Nazareth. They problem with Ceasar is quite simply the timeline for starters 100 - 44 B.C.

Christs is somewhere around 0-1 AD to 33 A.D.?

The website is rather impish to say the least?

Did you really read what it says on that website? Impish??
And did you look at the 20 page literature list?
And how come scholars and clerics (even a Jesuit) recommend the work?
And the summary and the excerpts from the book are very interesting and plausible.

I was going to rubbish the site out of hand until I read it in it's entirety.

Having just endured an overload of Julius Ceasar information in recent months whilst reading certain novels and the reference books that supported them, it can be said that the life of Julius cannot be researched and quoted upon that deeply, so perhaps it is worth consideration after all.

Much is not known of his (Julius) early career or indeed much of his personal life apart from the sigificant political events he engineered or his foreign military career CV.

The problem with this theory is it cannot be completely proved or disproved so any amount of claims can be made especially when there is a book on the subject to be sold.

Yep....... impish. I am allowed to disagree aren't I?

Read the I Claudios account of the house of Julian? Perhaps the shorter abridged version of Robert Graveses I Claudios and the Sun king will be a bit of a quicker read.

The timelines don't match up!

The Christian mystery has been unlocked, the code of the New Testament has been cracked.’
– die tageszeitung, Berlin –

What code? Most of the New Testament is translated from Aramanic. What are its "metaphores" which supposidly wrap it in such mystory?

Have you actually read the New Testament Juliana?

Its message is quite simple its not the enigma code?

This is the biggest nonsense I've heard in a while. Actually no Gospel was ever written in Aramaic or Hebrew.
This says enough about your and that author's (Robert Graveses) "expertise".

Is the Gospel the missal of the poor in spirit?

Happy fabulating.

What exactly was so fabulous about Julius Ceasar, apart from his conquering of many European and Middle East peoples and the resulting slavery, that would make him into a religious cult figure in the Western World? Perhaps it was the privaliged upbringing, another bonus point surely to the enslaved masses. Or perhaps the depraved games and circuses he held to win popularity

How do you know it's silly if you haven't read it yet?

I don't have to stick my head in a cement mixer to know its probably not a good idea.

I read the site and its speculative. Its comparasons between Ceasar and Jesus are like smashing a square peg through a round hole and going, "see it fits."

Besides due to your last comment about the gospels "Is the Gospel the missal of the poor in spirit?" is open to many a quisical interpretation. I not sure if its rhetorical or not?

At least I was pretty clear and intellectual unpretentious?

So I'll leave you with another of my intellectual teasers,

The book looks like it sucks!!!!!!

Paul didn't meet Jesus, good guess Asarualim ( maybe you been secretly studying again you crafty old heretic). He comes into play during acts with his approval concerning the stoning of Stephen.

We've got a lot to talk about. A few pints worth me thinks!!!!!
Your own hypothesis is laudable.

I did my little lecture on Friday night owning to our debates. The debate was good fun and help in given more fuel to the engine so to speak.

The book are what you recommended in earlier posts, thanks

Well I am inclined to believe he is in error regarding Pauls contribution to his letters to the early Church. However its not absolute, its more leaning on faith,. Basically a hypothesis which your sourse merely counters with evidence to suggest a case against.

Its perfectly reasonable to have a countering arguement if the chap countering has a well rounded scholastic / classical approach. Its not to be written off because he merely has a bias, don't we all Smile

I see him as a Sadducee who persectuted the early Church with gusto. I went to Lindos were he dropped anchor and one of his several missions.

The sadducees of the time are "evolved into what could be regarded the Rabbi and would have been adaptable to Dispora rather than the Pharisees who needed their centralism within the "promised" land.
