Recently there have been numerous historical dramas and documentaries centred around historical subjects. To mention a few: Elizabeth I, Catherine the Great, Rome, Egypt, Bleakly House etc. It seems that TV has found a new craze to replace the reality tv and makeover shows that have plagued our screens for to long.

I'm glad to see history getting the recognition it deserves and that tv producers are finally developing some taste!

If it's a craze it won't last long by definition. Besides most modern TV history is leftist bullshit. I saw a trailer this evening for Saturday's 'The Celts', which appeared to suggest a few myths were about to be exploded, and for a moment I almost began to believe the Scotch and the Irish - liars both - were going to get theirs at last, but naturally my joy was short lived. There were no 'celts' in these islands. What's more they know it. Nevertheless we'll be treated to the usual claptrap, the usual confection of half-truths and, by extnsion, anti-English propaganda. Not for Channel 4 the usual painstaking dissection of identity demanded by letist multiculturalist dogma and normally reserved for the English. Niot this time anyway. This is sacred cow territory.

Without 'celts' we'd have to accept that centuries of stagnation and inbreeding made not the slightest contribution to civilization. Without 'celts' Irish and Scotch claims to moral ownwership of these islands would have no substance, and would be exposed as the exercise in lies they are. Stupid of me to expect a fair crack of the whip from the *******s who made this 'landmark' series.

I've been looking at comments by academics who share my scepticim as a matter of fact. What's interesting is the way proponents react to doubts being aired - often violently and even with death threats. What exactly they be scared of is anyone's guess, but academics are not paid to be brave, and violence, or the threat of violence, usually results in compliance. Hard to predict how much more indoctrinating we require in order to learn that everyone is descended from the Irish, who've been around simply thousands of years, and who had a nice little number going in these islands until the Romans and then the ******* English came along to steal it all away, but I suspect it could be a long job. I also suspect we've fought the incoming tide all we can. Maybe it's time we followed the example of others and threatened to bang a few heads together.

Right Fat Jack I think its about time we got some things sorted!

Firstly we are called SCOTS not Scotch but SCOTS.

Secondly where is your proof we are liars? Is this just a small minded arrogant perseption of yours? Did you have a SCOTs girlfriend that left you? Either that or you have Mammie issues Roll Eyes

You are the type of person that keeps the "Auld Enemy" cr@p going, passing your toxic views onto others and still after hundred of years you cannot accept that the jewel in Britains crown is Scotland.

Get a Life or a girlfriend/boyfriend either way i think you need to get laid Roll Eyes

I think this might be interesting - especially as a lot of material on the "Celts" actually originates from these isles (especially Ireland) and possibly ought to be termed Gaelic (Ireland and Scotland - sorry not sure how to classify the picts)and something like Brythonic (Welsh and Cornish). That is, some of the so-called "Celtic" knowledge under that premise is not "Celtic" at all.

It doesn't affect the history and heritage of those parts of our isles - but it will affect the history and heritage of the "Celts" more if only mainland Europe stuff qualifies for that Big Grin

Couldn't agree more.

About getting "academics" opinions who can.........back up what you believe. Ahem, ALL research is subjective to a degree, what about all the research that says the Scots / Irish / welsh are 'Celtic' or are of 'Celtic' origin? EH.

Sounds like your a bit too 'rattled' to acknowledged any of that.

But does only mainland Europe qualify as being 'Celtic'?

Some people would argue yes, but their arguments seem to ignore the larger question of language, only looking at classical authors and archaeology. Just because it is not recorded that the Britons called themselves Celts, does not mean that they did not.

There is no answer to whether or not the ancient Britons were Celts, and most probably never will be. But one thing is definite, they did speak a Celtic language, including the area that became 'Pictland', they did use La Tene art, and there were distinct similarities in some areas of belief, including druids.

Why will you only listen to "academics" Plump Jack?

Is it because none of us so called celts, gaels, brythonics, etc will agree with anything you say?

Try to be a little more open minded.

And he seems to be very selective in the academics he is listening to. Not all agree with his views, some would be extremely opposed to them.
