Was slightly dissappointed as i found it hard to take seriously. All the sex scenes threatened to turned what ought to be a great story into a bit of a joke i think.

The many sex scenes were un-necessary I think but educational. I never realised Roman women were so particular about keeping their bikini lines in shape. Did they shave or wax?
The beeb merged the 1st 2 episodes into 1. I saw the originals from a download, but not the condensed version on BBC2. From the comments I've read since it appears a lot of plot & character development was chopped out, but the titillation was all left in. I can't say the original versions of the episodes dragged at all. Did I hear "Dumbing down"?

I heard that it was the first 3 episodes condensed in to 2. Apparently a lot of the political background was taken out.
