Hi boys and girls. I am doing a extended essay/coursework piece for my A-Level in History this coming year.
I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to suggest a topic for me to study.
I understand that I should be interested by the topic and am considering Che Guevara and the Mafia at the moment. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Have you been given any specific intstructions other than something that interests you?

Basically anything that will give me enough material to research.
For example, doing about a band like 'Queen' would probably be no good because there are little academic texts about them. Most of the material would be critical media.
A subject such as James I would provide immense material to research which will enable me to write a detailed piece.

What sort of subject in history intersts you?

I'm interested in anything eastern european. Ideally not previous to the 18th century, although I'm willing to make exceptions. America too.
That is a broad range! if European, how about the ramifications of the treaty of utrecht 1715
if british, Britiain's expansion of power in Africa inthe 19th century?

As an A-level student myself, i am currently studyinh Henry viii as part of my coursework. i would advise you not to choose this topic as the reformation is the most monotonous topic in existance. Pick a topic that you like i would suggest the expansion of the empire under Victoria and her forign policy.
joel e mole, i found the reformation well interesting! i'd say it's a pretty good topic to choose for a-level coursework as there are loads of conflicting sources etc. if it were me, i'd go with elizabeth i or the wars of the roses...

I did something similar, except on the decline of the Liberal party. Thought it was really good when I got into it, though from the outset it did sound a little boring.

Ohhhhh, everything! I don't know really. I've always been drawn to both the Tudors and Plantaganets. I like all the different personalities and now that I'm doing the Tudors in more detail, I now appreciate the politics (another A-lavel I'm doing!) of the time.
btw, I like your avatar!

I have to admit that I don't know a lot about pre-Norman England, other than the Romans (mainly thanks to my Latin GCSE)and vague bits about Viking longboats & beards and Saxons burial mounds.Oh, and blue Celts with their sacrificing!
Is it interesting then? Where do you really find out about it?

Yes I am inclined to agree with you there as I studied the Tudors as well as the Habsburgs/Valois around the same period - found the former to be of much more interest.
