I don't have any specific leads except I was informed by a well educated person who I trust that the film "Cromwell" starring Richard Harris as Oliver Cromwell and Sir Alec Guinness as Charles 1 is fairly accurate as regards historical events. I remember our history teacher took the whole class to see it at the cinema and you can probably get it as a DVD on the internet (try Amazon or Sendit).
It might make a good start to your research depending on what kind of theories you have in mind, and there are also plenty of books available via a good lending library. I have always found borrowed books better than internet sites, but there's no reason not to use both. Searching for "Oliver Cromwell" will bring up lots of stuff on how and why the Civil War got started, and the film covers that point very well. It does not say anything about the wars in Scotland and Ireland, however, or exactly why he hated Catholics so much. For that you need to go back further in his ancestry, in the English monarchy and in the history of religion in England.

The BBC website, UKTV and the History Channel may all be worth exploring.
