I'd love to know what variety Jamie was growing in that tin can in episode 1- my friend gave me a seedling cherry tomato plant which is now really too big for my balcony in Glasgow- and i had wanted to grow it indoors. No crop yet, though lots of promising flowers and a few little green tomatoes growing slowly. Still, doing better than my grandparents' in Hampshire which caught blight and died last month. Any tips, anyone?

Sorry, I don't know what that variety was exactly, but 'Garden Pearl', 'Tiny Tim' and 'Tumbler' are all suitable for hanging baskets or small container growing, and a new variety I have tried this year called 'Micro Tom' doesn't get any bigger than eight inches in any direction. Unfortunately, none of these have particularly great flavour and it tends to be the larger vine types that produce the best fruit. All the varieties I mentioned are available from Simpson's seeds, but I am sure the larger seed companies (like T&M) also do Tumbler and Micro tom.
I grow my tomatoes in a Hydro system (see www.greenhousesensation.co.uk) and these are ideal for indoor/balconies etc. but be warned the plants will grow fast. They do bring the fruit on earlier too, so great for years like this when everything is late.

My cherry tomatoes are ripening little by little- and they are so sweet! cant believe it. Nothing like the flavourless ones you get from the supermarket. I pulled off the flowers to try to get the green ones to ripen before the frost gets them, but it was good to get a glimpse of Jamie's tomato plants in the episode about pumpkins, looking about as healthy as mine!

I also ordered some Tiny Tim seeds from one of the supliers Jamie listed in his book. (I got it as a birthday present and it's great, so pleased. Well done Jamie!) So fingers crossed for a more manageable sized plant next year!
