Prob because nicotein & alcohol have a more obvious effect lol...not really the answer I know.. Big Grin actually it's not a boring question...must be something to do with the growth hormones in children or somesuch.

It's because they don't affect children either - it's a lie.

I did not believe E numbers affected behaviour until my son had his first glass of Pepsi at a Micky D birthday party (age 4) and started climbing the wall when he got home. We narrowed it down to Sodium benzoate and brightly coloured chews. Chewitts? He eventually grew out of it - apparently older children/adult's diegstion can deal with it better.

Most of the problems kids have with junk food (including hyperactive behaviour) is a natural response to a high sugar intake. Kids burn it off as energy. If they didn't they'd get sick.

By the time a sugar fueled child grows up their system is so damaged by high levels of sugar that they are more likley to fall asleep after eating it.

This is to do with the way the endocrine system, the pancreas and the body's resistance to its own insulin all develop over time.

my 2 yr old nothing sends him hyper but my 4 yr old, my god, coke, pepsi, blackcurrant, ribena and the worst lemonade, he is bouncing off the walls, my dad gave him lemonade about 30 mins before bringing him back to me, he was 3 then, he hadn't had a nap was knackered before he brought him home, took me till 10.30pm to get him to bed, his normal bedtime is 7pm. Yes the grandfather got a right lecture. My boys only have water or watered down pure juice at home.

What is "hyper", I don't think I've ever seen it. Do their heads spin round or something?

I do tend to react to E numbers. I love Diet Coke but have stopped drinking it because it makes me hyper and tense all at the same time! If I eat sweets with lots of colour etc I can feel the same. Although I was never a hyper child.

What i don't get is the fact that smarties have stopped the blue ones but if you look at the pick n mix in woolworths they are plastered with them.
