I have been watching Jamies show and honestly I am shocked! Why would parents want to kill their children with junk food??? I live in France and maybe a documentary should be done here to educate parents, teachers, kids etc that it is possible to give healthy meals! My son has three courses everyday but isn't given a choice so the cost is far cheaper, the food is nutritious and my child loves and works hard at school. The UK needs to change it's approach and quickly!
You don't have to wave ignorance that way; French food is very far from being limited to snails and frogs, as is Brit food not limited to bland, boiled stuff. Drop the stereotypes, open up your vistas.
Please dont be rude and ignorant about french food, that is what is wrong with us over here sometimes were always on the defensive. The french have always excelled at cuisine and always taken long lunch breaks to eat healthly, which is something we never do. What we feed our children in schools is rubbish but the changs are being made slowly but surely. We have always beeen behind in this country where food and dining have been concerned. Dont get me wrong some of the old claassic english dishes cant be beaten, especially with fresh produce, its just the way its slung at you some times by the person serving it. Please tell me what french cars have to do with food ?
They probably think the same about, us but youve got to admit we are a bit ignorant in this country at times. Dont know wots with all the extra letters on my posts think my keyboard may be sticking haha.
Butros75, Im all with you on this, i left Bright and sunny England for France around 15 years ago and still see British Tv. And only stopped by this thread because of the title "French Food" and was totaly dumb founded by the reactions you recieved. How can any of you be so ignorant towards French Food when britain has the worst reputation on the whole planet. Outside of the greasy full English breakfast (which i love) what other dish is typically English. There are sometimes very flippant remarks made to posts of this nature and you will get people who have a stereotypical view of what people from certain countries are about - and their food.
However it's not very productive to counter their remarks with insults of your own!
French cooking is not my absolute favourite but I'm very glad that I live in an era where we have the choice to travel and try lots of things whilst immersing ourselves in the culture of that country and that we can get many different cuisines at home in restaurants, take aways and in our own kitchens.
That's how most of us feel I believe. French cooking is famed from a restaurant point of view. Day to day it's far more basic but nevertheless the culture is and I hope remains away from junk food and snacks, though last time I was over there it appears there are more sales of sandwiches and baguettes, pastries for lunchtime eating than there used to be (as opposed to people returning home to eat a home cooked meal). France has changed with the times just like everywhere else.........

Made a little mistake there oops, What i was going to say is as you know i am with on the french food and peoples attitude etc, but youve got it wrong when it comes to british food. I trained to be a chef twenty years ago when it was not all fish and chips pizza etc. Both my mum and my grandma were brilliant cooks and you cant beat some of the soups, stews, pastry, bred etc they used to make. Rabbit has become very trendy again which was also eaten years ago, dont under estimate british food there are some great country pubs and some amazing fine dining restaurants in London etc. The French are renowned for there excellence in fine dining but also some brits have made there name as well look at Gordon Ramsay ate in his New York restaurant best service and food ive had any where in the world. There are good and bad about everything just think before you make judgement, but every ones entitled to there opinion.
