The new government initiatives have come into effect where kids have to be provided with a certain amount of fresh fruit and veg for their school meals.
My local school had Healthy School Status anyway and has healthy breaks where no fatty snacks are allowed. They have installed water coolers but have very limited facilities to teach children to cook.
How do parents feel about this? What has your local school done to follow Jamie's initiative?
Our local school has done the same with healthy foods at break time. The children can only bring a piece of fruit, then the peelings or the core can be put in the compost bin.
It is alot better than having crisp packets, sweetie wrappers and poly bags blowing about!
They have drawn aline about the water coolers, as some of the pupils might kick them over in temper.
Even there school dinners have become more healthier. It is cooked in one school and then bused in. However there is still amount being thrown away. The kids excuse is they didn't know what was on the menue. These are sent out weekly with the newsletter.
So comment is the government should spend money on building schools with kitchens then paying for their private lunchens and special meetings. Then we can have proper school meals like the old days when every thing was cooked on site.
