I was wondering how healthy Jamie's cookings are. I think he uses a lot of olive oil. Is this healthy or will it just make you gain weight (or both)? And how about his choice in bread/pasta/rice/potatoes etc? I would love to hear your opinions!
It is a well known fact that wholemeal, wholewheat and brown versions of bread, pasta and rice are much healthier than the white variety (which is what Jamie mostly uses).
Jamie uses lots of good quality extra virgin olive oil, which is better than saturated fats like butter and margarine.
However as my mum says, everything in moderation- Jamie's foods are rich, entertaining style, and use expensive ingredients. You wouldn't eat it every day!
When used as part of a balanced diet, Jamie's recipes are tasty and healthy.
I agree with Sunnyspell. Olive oil is the finest thing to use when you need an oil and carbs are also good for you as they promote the slower release of energy. Pro footballers have been eating a carb rich diet for years, just don't have too much at a time that's called being a piggie.
I don't think his food is very healthy, he puts cheese and olive oil on almost everything, but like someone else said, you wouldn't eat that kind of thing everyday. But having said that, lets face it, what IS healthy, a bowl of lettuce in some water maybe, almost everything that taste good is unhealthy.
in some ways it is bad and others good. i love how he uses fresh ingredients from the garden and goes for good quality cheeses, bread ect not that fake packaged supermarket food.
We as a nation seem to have become obsessed with calories and carbs and saturated thingys and whatever else is topical, Im sure that you have all heard somene say my granny ate dripping and my grandpa ate this and that and they lived to be 95, what has hapened to us we are frightened of eating? the biggest killer is all the preservatives and antibiotics and goodnes knows what they put into processed food, in short we are killing ourselves honestly we are by being over cautious I have seen both Jamie and Hugh fernly pull a carrot straight out of the ground and just crunch it qiuck wipe and crunch, thats how our grandparents used to do it no worrying about all the hidden bacteria in the soil, or the callories or carbs, enjoy your food because if you eat cliically and then drop dead wouldnt you hav rather enjoyed what you were eating I know I would, I may die before you but I will of had a dmn good meal just before i went LOL
I agree with you Person UK - we should enjoy our food.
I believe proteins are the slow-release foods, for example a delicious roast rib of beef (If you can afford it now), not carbohydrates which I think include fat and sugar, but Jamie doesn't seem to cook that sort of thing.
The best thing about his programmes is his enthusiasm, and apparent lack of mystique. He makes cooking look like a normal activity, not just something only important chefs with big hats on can do, and he doesn't mess around making pretty patterns on the plate with it. More power to him.
I dont care as long as it tastes good which most of the ones I have tried do.
Fed up with not being able to enjoy my food without someone asking/telling me i should eat less/none/more of this and that, Life is too short lets enjoy it while it lasts.
