It's a sad day in english football but also the start of a new era. The Sven Goran Eriksson era has ended and now Steve McClaren can take his place on the throne. David Beckham has resigned as England captain in a very emotional press conference where he was applauded at the end. I reckon the new captain should definitely be Joh Terry, or second best, Gary Neville. I do not feel Steven Gerrard (not experienced enough) or Frank Lampard (not good enough) would be good choices. I think it was good in a way for England to do badly in this world cup so there is no pressure on McClaren to keep up the standards set by Sven. Also i do not think Sven deserved to win a world cup with england due to his tactical inadequacy and general idiocy! Any views on England matters?
Is Beckham just quitting the captaincy? Or the team altogether?

im not sure rois, ive only seen as far back as 1946 anyway
it's possible isn't it sal, i suppose it depends how well he performs over the next four years and where it is, whether he remians at real madrid or come back to england. Also, it depends whether England can find anyone to replace him on the right side of midfield.
I think its about time England faces the fact they can't play foortball and get over it.
the football they played was pretty pathetic at most times during the world cup. Hopefully it was just Sven's tactics rather than the players and Steve McClaren can get something more out of them, hell, he did it with Middlesbrough!
