Maybe Walcott was good enough, but as Sven had no intentions of using him, he was pointless - it depends whather he'd use the other strikers. Bent's 22 goals were impressive, though I admit I'm not thoroughly convinced by him. As for McClaren I like you will give him time, but I can't help but admit he has been very poor for his club. mediocre when he took over, still mediocre. How could they appoint somebody when his club was 15th in the league, and not long after fans were throwing their season tickets at him?

Yes but you have to remember that the team he was managing was Middlesbrough, not exactly the richest team in the country so he couldnt bring in as many players as he would have liked, nor attract as many players as he would have liked. He did get them to the uefa cup final and england aren't going to be playing english teams so......

Are you joking!? With the amount of money Middlesbrough have spent they should have finished in the top 6. Yes he got them to the UEFA Cup but lets be honest- its a joke of a cup. Middlesbrough have been one of the biggest spenders in recent years and have a massive wage budget- Hasselbaink, Yakubu, Viduka, Mendieta, Rochemback are all on massive wages

well it's not McClaren's fault if those big name players aren't performing....

I wouldnt say England are crap but they just aren't in the same league as the likes of Brazil, France, Argentina, Germany etc. They are quite a bit behind teams like that.

Wrong - managers are responsible for motivating players and making them play to their strengths, get 110% out of them etc. They won't just play brilliantly by themselves. If the excuse is always the players not the manager's fault, then managers wouldn't be sacked would they, as it's nothing to do with them.

On paper, we are much better than Germany. They'd only win because they're on home soil.

We are not far behind the teams you mentioned. Brazil have no spine and have a team of over-rated players. Adriano, Carlos, Cafu, Ronaldinho are all over-rated. Brazil give teams so many chances and ponce about too much. Argentina are a good side but we can and have beaten them. Germany are about the same as England but with better tactics. France are a very impressive side but have an ageing side. Ribery is a great prospect though. England with the right manager and tactics are as good as all of the teams mentioned

In fact come to think of it, pretty much the whole of the Brazillian team is overrated. Carlos is poor and should have stopped taking free-kicks yesrs ago. Ronaldo went from "fat and useless" to world beater overnight. Not fat and useless, but certainly overrated. Like his fellow striker Adriano. Ronaldinho is no Pele/Maradona etc. Cafu should retire. Kaka is also not as special as is made out to be. See, they are not some force not to be reckoned with at all.

i suppose i agree with you partly but the manager cannot physically get inside the player's heads...... and make them play better....

I agree with the inspiration- a good manager would have used the money better or got more out of the players. Also, yes practically all Brazil players are over-rated.

I doubt home advantage is the only reason the Germans are doing so well. They just beat Argentina who had been by far the most impressive side so far in the tournament.

In terms of players they are not a particularly strong side. They had a pretty poor run up to the World Cup, and their deence looks very suspect. Of course we can't gurantee what would happen otherwise, but home advantage could have easily influenced their turn around against the Argies, and also the Argies lost the game by making defensive substitutions, then losing it as they could have brought on btter attacking players.
