Best thing to do would be leave it out in the garden for your cat to finish off. We often have this problem with our cat eating birds, so we just leave them out there.
It's mean, but a pidgeon that can't fly, has no tail feathers and can only just hop around hasn't got much of a life!
With no tail feathers it will have problems balancing.
I don't rate its chances I'm afraid Log. Having had loads of birds brought in by one of our cats I have to say that not many survive, they die from the shock as much as anything else.
It will eventually grow new tail feathers, might take a while but they should grow back. So if it can cope with being kept indoors it has a good chance of being returned to the wild.

yeah but if it cant fly it would just die outside so its better to try and keep it alive and hope it does get better to go back. I know it kind of different but what happens when a deer is run over, they get looked after at a vets and then they try and keep them as wild as possible to get the back in the wild!
I think the bird should go to a vet anyway, theyll probably do nothing about it but she should still try and giev it to them!
just because a bird cant fly dosnt mean its life is wasted! Lots of pet birds cant fly and they still live!
Yeah but pet birds are born into captivity. Kind of cruel to put a wild bird into that.
yeah. but it's also creul to leave it out in the boiling sun to die and get finished of by the cats. He cant really go out for freedom if he cant fly, so he'll just have to put up with captivity for a little bit until he gets better. And he's hardly kept in a creully small space, he has the whole conservatory to wander round in, cos he can get out of the box (ive seen him) its just there so he has somewhere to go for food water and shade.
theyll only put him down if there is deffinatly no chance of him fully recovering! If he cant fly they would probably send him off to some bird shelter! Why dont you phone the Birds charity the one that sounds like RSPCA lol!
log if you keep it it will die. Either take it somewhere vets etc or phone the rspb they can tell you what to do. My dad used to take in wild birds half died on him and he knew what he was doing.

Precisely. Log they put animals down as a last resort and it really is for the best if they decide to do that.
As for the comparison with humans - that's a whole different ethical debate over euthanasia.
It'll make a full recovery to be returned to the wild It'll make a full recovery but will be so used to use feeding it, it wont be able to be returned to the wild It will live, but will never be able to fly again, so will have to stay with us It will die

The RSPCA will put down animals they consider vermin, so the pigeon would be a gonna even if it had a chance of survival.
