OK, now I'm a very logical person and for me to believe something I need there to be proof of it and/or there to be a logical reason behind it. Consequently I don't believe in any form of deity and I think astology is a load of balls. I also believe that other pseudosciences, in particular numerology, are equally farcical.
However, today I recieved a numerology report for myself based soley on my name and my date of birth. This report described me, and it was amazingly accurate. The report was very specific, it didn't use general terms that could descibe many people simultaneously as astrology tends to do. In fact, it was so accurate that I am now beginning to wonder if my cynical view of such practises is pure ignorance and closed-mindedness rather than a legitimate logical cynicism.
Did you see Derren Brown last night on TV Sal? He did readings for all different nationalities and groups of people who all thought their readings were 'amazing accurate, non general... just profoundly life changing!' - they all turned out to have the same reading.

Well your not going to get any points
I am Kakashi Hatake. I have no intentions of telling you my likes and dislikes. As for my dreams...[pause]...I have few hobbies. ♥Sasuke! Calm down...I will protect you with my life. All of you! I shall not allow my comrades to die!♥ No, you don't get it, thats why I'm telling you. You think you get it, which isn't the same as actually getting it. Get it? -
i watched that@ derren brown,it just shows us that what we think is about us,isn't, as in they thought the writing was only for them, and they believed it all, till they realised they all got the same paper.

It uses your name and date of birth, translates them into numbers and from those numbers 'readings' are made. Similar to astrology but it's all about numbers. Numerology is to mathematics what astrology is to astronomy.

It seems quite difficult to comment on without knowing how the 'readings' are arrived at. If it's based on statistical probabilities it might have some kind of accuracy I suppose.
Sorry Sal, but it still seems like a load of b!**!%ks to me.
You know what people are like Sal, they think everything is 'talking' to them personally. Example - one of the things in the readings said something about being so creative and yet scared to complete a creative task for fear it won't be perfect... so cue loads of them applying that to something they have done, like not finishing a novel down to not trying out that cake recipe - almost anyone has been in that situation on some level...

Oh right, I thought you said it was non-general! LOL
No, the report I got described my personality, my likes, my dislikes, etc. It really was incredibly specific. I might get another report using a totally false name and date of birth, and see what I get.

Yeah I would, because your mind can play tricks - I mean unless its saying 'your mum is called Betty, she's 78 and she met your Dad counting grasshoppers on a biology field trip which is where your life long love of grasshoppers comes from' then, you know, treat with a healthy barrel of salt... x

That's not a bad idea. Try a foreign name and see if it comes up with any cultural stereotypes.
