SCIENCE FICTION SERIES: Invasion Channel: Channel 4 04 Date: Sunday 8th January 2006 Time: 20:30 to 21:30 ( Duration: 1 hour. Pilot. Series 1, episode 1.
For centuries, humans have searched the skies for signs of intelligent life. But what if the aliens were already here... living among us? And what if all the planet's natural disasters were smokescreens designed to mask something far more ominous? US smash hit drama series Invasion kicks off with a double bill, telling the story of a family that unwittingly finds itself at the centre of a conspiracy to mask an alien takeover. Starring: Eddie Cibrian, Evan Peters, Ariel Gade, Lisa Sheridan, Tyler Labine, Kari Matchett (Subtitles, Audio Described)
It's as a devotee of Sunset Beach that I hate Eddie Cibrian. He's so wet! Cole Deschanel is meant to be this dashing former jewel thief, but he's about as dashing as a wet blanket. I keep wanting to punch him. Sorry Eddie.
Originally posted by Mickey: Being fair for a second, though, he is one of SB's better actors. Not that that's always terribly difficult.
From the small glimpses I get of Third Watch every so often, he seems alright...He was horrid in SB, though, really.
Kind of looking forward to this, although I don't think it will ever make that Spielberg series of 'Taken' that was on the Beeb a couple of years back.
"One day my logic was proven wrong because the tide came in and gave me a sail"
Becky, come on. Is it really fair to judge the guy for Sunset Beach?! Three years, and there were only three actors who really came out of that with any real credit.
Eddie Cibrian's main problem was that his character was so lousy. Cole, the wettest jewel thief in the history of jewel thieves. A man so bad at the entire business of jewel thievery and seduction that you cannot believe that he never got arrested. A man so wet, so hopeless, and so utterly useless, that every time anybody mentioned him being sophisticated and professional, it brought on guffaws of laughter so loud that you missed the next ten minutes worth of plot.
Invasion doesn't look very good, though. You want former Beachers in sci-fi shows, watch Clive Robertson in Starhunter 2300. Now that one is cool.
I watched it for the first 15-20 minutes, and found it cliched. The script and direction annoyed me, and I was never much of a fan of Eddie Cibrian when he was in Third Watch, so he wasn't able to keep me watching either.
I felt like I'd seen it before, really. I'm sure it probably gets better and this post will make me look silly in the future, lol.
My official reaction at the moment is meh. I agree with Kat's post. Cliche city - cute kid who knows more than she lets on, loser who knows stuff but isn't believed, everyman good guy & dodgy sheriff. William Fictner usually plays shifty types.
I'll persevere but I don't see becoming one of my loves unless there is improvement.
I watched the X-Files film last night for the first time in a few years. Reminded me how much I used to love the X-Files. *sigh*
I repeat: You want former Beachers in sci-fi shows, watch Clive Robertson in Starhunter 2300.
Oh, The X-Files. How I used to love that show. The first two seasons were fabulous. All creepy and interesting and different. Then it went all conspiracy theory nuts, and I lost interest. Poltergeist: The Legacy took over from it for a while, all creepy and interesting and nicely weird, but Channel 5 refused to buy any more episodes after season two. And then there was VR.5, that got axed. And then there was Strange Luck. That got axed. And then there was Dark Skies. That got axed. And The Visitor. That got axed...
Lean times for people looking for something weird and different and sci-fi. Hope Torchwood can do the business.
