The DVD box set is really worth the money.

If you enjoyed the film you`ll enjoy the series even more, as you get to KNOW the charactors better. The film mostly focused on River and Mal, but the series is far more balanced as far as seeing more of the other charactors. Especially Inara.

There were a LOT of those hats going around at the convention at the weekend.

Not least because the hotel got caught out by the sudden drop in temperatures and didn`t have any heating on so we were all freezing our "assets" off.

I wonder if any of them were mine? I've sold quite a few on Ebay.

I'd have to see if I could find a pattern close enough to be able to knit it.

The problem is that jumpers take too long to knit. Hats I can do in a day.

I knew there had to be a Firefly thread around here somewhere Big Grin

Just watched the first three episodes... something I've been meaning to do since I saw Serenity. How was this cancelled so early? Mad

Because Fox jerked it around and people just didn't watch it. A sci-fi western didn't appeal to a large audience. Oh well, least we got a film out of it!

Silly Fox Frown Star Trek was sold to the network as " a wagon train to the stars" after all.

Although, thinking about it I probably could have done without the western-esque music in Firefly...

Hello angelus_mel!

Brill name!!

I was speaking to someone last night who saw the film (from a naughty source) before the series, and he said he found it amazing. He loved the humour. He`s already pre-ordered the film for later on this month.

He borrowed my daughter`s series box set and spent the whole weekend just watching the DVDs.

Has anyone else found the easter egg on one of the DVDs of the series where Adam Baldwin is singing the "ode to Jayne" song?

It`s hilarious.

I am in a quandary people. I've been hankering after the FF boxset ever since I rented the discs. I finally got one on ebay last monday for £19 (inc p&p). I had checked all the websites to see if they had lowered their prices yet but they hadn't. This is the kicker, on tuesday Amazon lowered their boxset price to £12.97 and if you pre-order Serenity as well you only pay £25 in total.
Should I re-sell my boxset on ebay (it's is still sealed) and go for this deal or wait for the film to come out and see if I like it and hope they still have the offer ?

I am sick as a parrot, kicking myself, really pissed off etc etc.

The movie is great, you won't regreat buying it. It's being shown again in the Prince Charles Cinema tomorrow night if you're london based and don't want to buy the movie without seeing it. It's usually extremely cheap there compared to other cinemas.

Can't wait to see it again now that I've seen firefly and will get the in-jokes this time Big Grin

I'm not London based unfortunately. I'd love to see Serenity on the big screen. I must have blinked and missed it when it was on in my area. Tsk !

A question for peeps with the boxset - what is the diff between the normal boxset and the special edition ?

Didn't realise there was a normal one! The special edition has the usual commentries, a quick audition tape, gag reel, deleted scenes, Adam Baldwin singing the Jayne song- as Angelus mentioned- and I think it has Joss Whedon singing the theme tune. (I lent my box set to someone before I watched all the extras so might be wrong)
What are the extras on the not special edition?

Look at it this way.

As Amazon have lowered thier price for Serenity, you`ll not make your money back on the boxset you`ve bought from ebay. People will buy the lower priced boxset from ebay.

So if it was me, I`d keep the boxset I got off Ebay, and buy Serenity seperately.

People are still paying £18 plus postage for them otherwise I wouldn't really give it a second thought. Not everybody is as adept at shopping around as we seem to be. When people were bidding 30 quid for them before christmas I was horrified. But what can you do ?

I have the special edition but I was wondering what made it special. Apart from the commentaries it is no different than the rental edition.

Maybe they were renting out the Special Edition?

Silverscreen, a DVD retail shop in Fareham was selling the Firefly Boxset for around £30 in the run up to christmas. No other shop had any copies at all.

I`ve bought DVDs on ebay that I wasn`t able to buy in the shops, only to find a few weeks later that the DVD has been re-released on budget pricing. The re-release not even coming up in searches in the "coming soon" areas of online DVD stores.

The cheapest I saw Firefly before Christmas was at cdwow for £17. It went down to £16 after Christmas. It was region 2 and 4 though and I wanted the plain ole R2. Amazon was the next best at £20. This is why I refuse to bid over the odds for things on Ebay.

Now I wonder whether I shouldn't just wait a while and buy Serenity for a couple of quid in future. Procrastination *should* be my middle name. Roll Eyes
