BBC producers on BBC Breakfast were selling new assistant Martha (Freema Agyeman) as 'ballsy'.
Oh dear how predictable?
"She's academic and very independent. She has her own flat and she's almost qualified to be a doctor, whereas Rose was living at home with her mum, and there was that feeling of slight disgruntlement with her life."
The fools obviously don't realise that's what endeared Rose to viewers. We don't need yet another 'ballsy' 'empowered' career woman stereotype - they're already just about every female character on every show on TV!
I really haven't found the show half as good since Eccleston left and Tennant took over and the best thing about it was Piper as the assistant. I think this new change could be the straw that breaks the ratings back.
But I honestly hope I wrong. But I don't think so.
'dr who'had gone completely rubbish, sure the effects are good but what's the point of good effects if the plotting makes stuff like 'sunset beach' or 'carry on' movies look good? the books showed how adult and complex the series could be but RTD killed it. I watche the xmas one last night and the dialogue was awful to be polite, it made me cringe and I used to be a fan since peter davidson. rose is rubbish and they would have been better off not bringing the series back. you can have excellent plotting and characterisation without sacrificing anything or camping it up so it's awful
I just hope David Tennant tones it down a little bit this season. He was just a little bit too manic in a few of the last eps. I think he's a great actor but maybe needs directing a bit more.
Hopefully the new assistant will be portrayed as someone with more to give up by leaving Earth and that'll be the way they play her character.
But, at the end of the day it is more for kids than adults so I'll have to gagge how good it is by my nephew and niece's reactions, not mine. And it can't be worse than Torchwood, can it?

I agree with the last part. Perhaps the BBC has learned from the Hollywood box-office formula for success - who cares about the plot as long as the bangs are big enough?
My little one keeps seeing it advertised (and his friends always talk about it at school) and wants to watch, isn't it a little bit ott for him? Especially when he suffers night terrors/mares as it is?

Yes, but adults tend to watch it because it was such a large part of their childhood. They tend to measure it up to how the felt then, when they found different things entertaining so it is a tall order to keep that part of the audience happy.
I do think it has been camped up far too much, and just needs toned down, and calmed down.

I don't think that's the hollywood formula . I can rant on this and I think I was approaaching that stage

Yes, but adults tend to watch it because it was such a large part of their childhood. They tend to measure it up to how the felt then, when they found different things entertaining so it is a tall order to keep that part of the audience happy. I've rewatched from the 1st to the 7th and I can still enjoy them, to the same level as ever but the new series is pants I do think it has been camped up far too much, and just needs toned down, and calmed down.
I watch it cos I love good Sci-fi. There is nothing worse that bad Sci-fi. As for showing her having something to leave Earth for - I'd say that sounds pretty unlikely. From the way they're selling it, to me it sounds like they're going down the line of her merely going along to satisfy her scientific curiosity.

The BBC website gives each episode a 'fear factor' from 1 to 5. Tonight's is a 3 for 'very scary' so I'm not sure. He could always hide behind the couch like we all did.

Most of the newer Doctors have camped it up a little, from Tom Baker onwards. Nothing wrong with that m its part if his make up. I was a tad annoyed about inconsistancies, such as the timeline, with Torchwood, it pverlaps a little and doesnt quite make sense, but apart from that, I find both series enjoyable.
I have high hopes for this series,especially the last three episodes.

The first two series were brilliant and owed a lot to Space: Above and Beyond (which was never given a real chance). But I've been off Sky for a few months so I'm waiting for the re-run.
Yeah, I stopped watching it cause the writing is so lousy... a million an episode wasted on such lousy scripts.
They've also youngified and sexualised the Doctor to more closely resemble everybody else on screen - bad bad bad... the trusty all-knowing asexual uncle figure was a much better character.

I shouldn't have said that - I hoped you'd accept it after watching the 5 and 6 I thought the 7th was excellent because of stuf flike the story arc and the mystery ogf him , he was the ka fariq gatri, he was an excellent character and Ace was the perfect sidekick unlike rose who is a mere cypher and a bad one at that, the 7th doctor gave us the new adventures which I've read and they we're brilliant and the gods of gallifrey (time, death and pain). the characters we're excellent and well-wrote and the 9th and 10 are awful in comparison
