I cant believe my eyes! The newspaper said there will be a new Dr Who spin off airing next summer, a racy adult one starring the divine Captain Jack Harkness!! And written by Russell T Davies! There must be a way Dr Who and Jack fans can let the Beeb know how delighted we are.
We were going to keep this in the Doctor Who thread...
... but you can't have too much about Jack.
Yes SnowAngel, by all means. There is a feedback form that you can find on the BBC website, or you can write snailmail to BBC Wales. They will be delighted to hear positive feedback, as all they usually get are complaints!
Just because a person is gay doesn`t mean they can`t have FRIENDS of both sexes.
But of course if you`re not the right gender there`ll be no "dancing" involved!!
Watched The Doctor Dances and Boom Town on UK Gold last night.
Oh.... and By the way (kinda off topic for Torchwood, but on topic for the Doctor. Or at least the 10th Doctor!)
Anyone watch the Before They Were Famous programme last night?
Had David Tennant in it. In drag, looking great!
******************************** John Smith: So what am I then? Nothing. I`m just a story.
Doctor: You`re an echo. That`s all. A TimeLord is so much more. A sum of knowledge; a code. A shared history. A shared suffering. Only it`s gone now, all of it. Gone forever.
It`s mentioned in first The weakest link segment in the Bad Wolf episode.
Foreshadowing or what? Or did RTD have the Torchwood series already lined up??

The Cobalt Pyramid is erected on the site of the famous Torchwood Institute.
Yep, RTD knew what he was doing. The plan as he revealed it at the time was to set up another recurring strand during series two like the Bad Wolf one in series one. This may still be the case, or it may be that he's now shifted Torchwood to its own little plot elsewhere.
So maybe Jack finds himself back in Torchwood Institute time after leaving the Games Station.
He has himself a merry old time there for a season.
The Doctor and Rose visit, and whisk him away for the third season?
Or maybe Jack decides to stay at Torchwood, and he never goes back to the Tardis.
Maybe Jack is even behind the naming of the Institute?

It seems likely that Jack leaves the Station by whatever means, and winds up in 21st century Cardiff. Possibly by riding the surfboard through the rift - JB says we won't get told how he gets there. I guess that's so that non-Who viewers won't feel left out.
Really though, everything is speculation at this stage. What we know for certain is that Jack is in it - and that's about it! JB is signed for series three of Doctor Who, though, so as it stands there's no reason to suspect that he won't return. It's all just "wait and see". Or "wait and speculate", if you prefer.
From what I`ve read, (and assumed , reading between the lines)it looks as though Torchwood filming and Doctor Who filming don`t overlap.
This could mean that Jack can be in both shows - as there`s no crossovers between shows. So Jack can be "stuck" in 21st century Cardiff, and yet still be dodging around thru time with Doctor and Rose. Just as long as the Tardis doesn`t visit 21st century Cardiff where Jack can potentially meet himself, there should be no problems. I`m sure there won`t be any problems with the Tardis visiting Jackie and Mickey in 21st century London whilst still having another Jack about 200 miles away in Wales.
At least it will confuse the hell out of Mickey the idiot!
I like speculation, especially when there`s no chance, yet, of genuine spoilers being out there. It gets "dangerous" when people start spouting spoilers but insist it`s speculation

One of the most annoying things about forums. I guess it's so they can shout "Look! I was right!", but it's just plain bad manners.
Filming starts late January I believe, so I guess we will start to get some concrete information then. Whether or not we'll hear much before then I don't know. Have to see what turns up in Doctor Who Magazine.

True, (got a DW magazine myself this morning).
I suppose (at least I HOPE) that as Doctor Who is British there will be less time for Definitive spoilers to circulate before the series airs. For sure we won`t have that infuriating 4 month gap we usually get with US shows from when they watch shows til we get to see them.

That's certainly possible, though I doubt it. They will be hoping to get people watching Torchwood who don't watch Doctor Who, so I'd be surprised to see that being made part of the plot. It'll be as straightforward as possible, at least at first.
Anything's possible, though.
As for spoilers, it's the Press that are the main culprits there, Angelus. I don't buy any newspapers, so I thought I'd be safe. I had to completely bypass Teletext and Ceefax towards the end of the first series of New Who, though, as they kept printing loads of spoilers.
I didn't read this thread before cos it sounded like some dodgy US western series
The Torchwood thing sounds as though it may get a little like Stargate SG-1, looking for alien tech to help defend Earth. Depends if they have the means to travel to other solar systems though.
Ripper is still up in the air, Vern. Never say never, but don't hold your breath either. If the Spike movie does okay, there's likely still hope, but maybe not for a Joss/BBC co-production, as originally envisaged.
Can i just ask, and you've probably gone over this time and time again, so I do apologise, but I read somewhere - I think it was epguides.com that on Children in Need they did like a 3 minute Doctor Who bit with Rose and David Tenant and mentioned Jack had to rebuild the earth - so does that mean that they know Jack is still alive and if so how?
Sorry if I'm repeating same stuff you've previously discussed.
