No, Tosh probably isn't gay. Just experimenting. Bi, quite possibly.

And yes, Jack knew that Tosh was trying to get inside his head. Said so, didn't he. "I could feel you scrabbling about in there".

Interesting piece of Trivia.

Alexis Denisof, Anthony Head, and John Barrowman all appeared together in a stage play in 1993, called Rope.

And my goodness don`t they look so young!!! Wink

I probably don't want to know about the different things you can do with a stopwatch. Eek

So the glove does an alien healing device job. Except Suzie is nothing like Susan, so I'm glad she got it in the end.

And loads of Emily Dickenson. Am I seeing B5 connections where there aren't any again?

Best one yet. More story line than sex. Not that I object to sex I just prefer strong story lines. Could Jack have used the "other" gauntlet? Things seem to be getting deeper and more interesting, roll on next week.

I know about the play itself.

And I remember reading, long ago, that Alexis and Tony appeared on stage together in the early 90s.

I just didn`t know about JB being there with them as well. Well, I must have seen him in the photos, because I had seen them before. But as I wasn`t aware of JB then, I didn`t take much notice. Razz

Thoughts on "They Keep Killing Suzie"

Like many people said - THIS ROCKED!

Suzie - What a brilliant return of all counts. She certainly was a clever girl, getting some sod as a Sleeper Agent to get TW to bring her back to life. Pity Indira Varma isn't a regular. Her scenes with Eve and John were brilliant. Suzie was desperate to live because there was no afterlife but something in the dark, even she was afraid of, even if she gleed about it being after Captain Jack. Did her father abuse her as a child? Why else would she kill him. I think she felt a pang of sympathy for Gwen but she definitely had a lot of resentment for being replaced too.

Gwen - Yes she was actually useful and had an interesting non scene stealing role in the episode. She empathised with Suzie and you could see why, so her sneaking Suzie out of TW while stupid, wasn't unbelievable. I liked their conversation in the car on the nature of heaven/afterlife and I wonder if she now that she knows Owen boinked Suzie, will that stop her affair? She also unsurprisingly proved to be a dab hand with The Risen Mitten.

Captain Jack - I liked him a lot in this episode, whether it was flirting with Ianto, discussing old boyfriends or even shooting Suzie multiple times to save Gwen. He's got to take Suzie's warning of things coming after him seriously, he'd be stupid not to really. He was a bit stupid in not realising that gloves come in pairs.

Ianto - There's my boy! I hope he's flirting with Jack because he does kind of fancy rather than a part of some revenge scheme. If anyone could empathy with Suzie's craziness and desperation, then Ianto would be that guy. Give this man a stopwatch everytime.

Toshiko - Not as great as she was last week but still likeable even if she was harsh to Suzie. Neither her, Owen or Ianto even showed real concern or friendship with Suzie either. She also figured out about the security number on the book, so good for you.

Owen - Better than last week but hardly extraordinary really. Moaned about Suzie's betrayal but proved to know little about his former colleague, although his concern for Gwen was kind of sweet.

Detective Swanson - Jabe from "The End Of The World", people. I liked her character and the fact she isn't a fan of Torchwood but will let them get on with things when the going gets tough. She should definitely recur.

Max/Alex/Mark/Sarah - The corpses and the sleeper agent were interesting enough. Pilgrim were a harmless bunch of people and Suzie used her loneliness and exploited these people. They also raised the notion that TW aren't half as good as covering up things as they would like to be.

- The music rocked - Lamb's "Gorecki" especially
- More consistent continuity
- TW owns your body/posessions when you die. Very Wolfram & Hart in a way.
- Emily Dickens really is depressing

Um, a perfect 10/10. What else could I give this?

Whilst gloves come in pairs, it's hard to see why anybody would have bothered making a pair in that case. So I don't see that anybody is silly not to have thought of it sooner.

Especially since RTD made it quite clear in Declassified that he hadn't thought of it either. Razz

And I hate Emily Dickenson. Smile Always have...

Loved the hitchcock film version of this, it was filmed in realtime, only breaking to change the film reels (try and spot the cuts) to make it seem as though it was all done in one take, the backdrops where painted from day to night gradually, a great film and risky subject for its time, check it out...

Not that risky. They very much played down the gay angle.

But would it be obvious to the homophobic era that existed when the film was made?

I doubt very much that the "queer" aspect would have been advertised as homosexuality was illegal at the time.

True.

And I know I`m being a bit pedantic.

But.... in this day and age when people are allowed to be themselves, and don`t have to hide, we know that there are the really camp "queen" gays, and the ones you wouldn`t be able to tell, unless you were told. So in the homophobic 50s it would be the camp "queens" that the population would be aware of, and scared by. They would have assumed that ALL gays would be like this.

So, IMO, actors acting "gay" would only have these role models to base their gay charactors on. Portraying gays as "normal" wouldn`t be understood by the general public (or the McCarthyism politicians who believed that gay were "commies"). It`s my understanding of the era, that an actor portraying either a gay or a commie would be percieved to be one in real life, and subject to political and media harrasment.

I will admit that my opinions are based on history and biographies written in modern times with "hindsight" commentary on the relevent era. Smile

Well, as ever it's rather more complicated than that. Anyay, there's nothing terribly noticeable in the film version of Rope, certainly. 99% of the viewing public probably weren't aware that there was anything deeper than friendship. Supposedly it did get banned in a number of places across the States, though, because of the implied relationship. Roll Eyes

A director who wanted to portray the relationship as gay could have done so more overtly, using subtle looks and touches that would have gone over the heads of anybody who wanted it to. You could argue that Hitch did that anyway - but in the process took subtlety to a whole new level, as even when you know the gay thing is there it's easily missed. Farley Granger, one of the actors in the film, was gay. So was the screenwriter, whose name I forget. Hitch supposedly knew that, and was rather amused by the whole censorship issue.

1948 was rather a silly time, really. Seems to me that actors were happier coming out (within the closed environs of Hollywood) than they are now. And yet, as ever, everybody chickened out of ever getting anything on screen. In many ways they still do now. Ever seen that hilarious biopic of Rock Hudson? He kisses his boyfriend the way most men kiss their mothers. Roll Eyes And that was made in 1990.
