personally, I wasn`t too keen on that ep. It was alright, and all that, but Tosh isn`t/wasn`t a favoured charactor.

one question-how did jack handle being buried alive for over a century?
|
| |
|

|
Yeah i wondered that! Plus that makes him anothee 100 years older!! So, how old is he?? (roughly of course) what with all the different things that have happened to him?

A century? I think it was more like 2000 years wasn't it? And yes, I'm surprised he didn't go bonkers in that time

um...... he spent 107 years locked up in the Torchwood vault. But he was actually buried alive for nigh on 2000 years. Grey buried him alive in 69AD. Maybe, because he was buried directly in the earth, rather than a coffin, that he kept suffocating each time BEFORE he could regain full conciousness, and be aware that he was still buried. In actual fact he wouldn`t suffocate either..... he was 20 feet down so the weight of the earth above him would prevent his lungs from being able to inflate, so he wouldn`t even be able to take that first lungfull of air. So, to all intents and purposes, he would be unaware of the passage of almost 2000 years.

Yeah, i think you're right actually. Because Grey buried him in, what, like 100AD or something then he wasn't woken up and frozen until like the 1900's or something! That's insane!! He would have definitely gone doolally in that time! Plus, wouldn't he also look a bit older? I mean, i know he doesn't age like a regular person but in an episode of DW he does say that he's still looking older very slowly. So you'd think after 2000 years....

Oops, i posted before reading the one above me! Oh, you make a good point! That's not as bad then, he probably didn't ever really fully gain consciousness then, although it still wouldn't be pleasant!

In an episode of Doctor Who (that does not exist because I despise it utterly ) he hints at getting older. However two weeks earlier the Doc had confirmed him as a fixed point in time - so no way is he getting older. All that getting older nonsense stems from the dreadful joke as Jack says goodbye. A joke that wasn't even supposed to make the final cut. So no, Jack wouldn't have got older if he'd been conscious for two thousand years underground. He would very likely, though, have gone stark staring mad. So the "he was dead most of the time" theory is the most likely one.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up and explaining to me (again) Mickey!

Why don't you like that episode though? I really liked that one as i can recall. Although the tiny weird old doctor was very strange it has to be said! I think i just liked it cos i thought John Simm was good!

If a person was to google their own name they would get hundreds (if not thousands)of people with the same name as themselves. So if the Doctor was to do the same with "the Face of Boe" many millions of years into the future, I`m sure he`d get the huge face in a jar come up, as well as anyone else who had made it onto the internet with such a nickname, including any other child from the Boshane Peninsular who became a poster boy for the planet. I just googled my own name. 93,300 entries came up (of which entries 3 and 4 were actually me!!! **see my head swell!!**). So it is very concievable that there was more than one person with that name in the vast expanse of time and space that the Doctor inhabits.

Oh i see, so you're not a fan of the face of boe reference! I guess it was just a bit of fun! I just googled my name though saying that and there's only 15 entries and i'm the first one! Woop woop! Nothing exciting though, only my Facebook profile!

Because it was awful. Truly, truly awful. Easily the worst episode of DW that I have ever seen - and I've seen "Underworld". And "Time And The Rani". The plot was dreadful, the Master was awful, the aged Doctor thing was just terrible, and the time reset at the end is one of my major hates in sci-fi. Star Trek do it all the time, and it is never, ever good. It was just really, really bad. (Other opinions are, of course, available ).

I agree that the time reset was a major cop out but like i said, i liked the Master, i thought he was good. But saying that i've not seen him in the older DW's so wouldn't know if it was as good as them, or true to other stories/representations etc.

Hmmmm so what do you think of the 'Face of Boe' thing then?? Do yo think it's him? As that's a HUGE physical change. The dead most of the time theory actually hgives me some comfort as it would have been less traumatic for him

Ahh ok, I read all these responses after I typed my above post.. brain getting ahead of itself again. So people generally think this is a red herring???

The thing about Sci-Fi is that nothing is original anymore. Even the cult film Forbidden Planet is supposedy based on Shakespeare`s The Tempest. At least on resetting the year, the Doctor is not alone with his memories of that year. Poor old Angel was the only one who remembered the day that never was between him and Buffy. I know that not a lot of things made sense in TLoTTL, but it was a "fun" episode. The only thing I wasn`t too keen on was the killing off of The Master. I thought John Simm was excellent and he and DT had great chemistry. So I hope that they somehow manage to bring back John Simm to play the Master in the future - even though I know that however they do it will be ludicrus, and ridiculed by all of fandom. I just want John Simm back!!

To be honest, having Capt Jack as the Face of Boe would also give me comfort as well, knowing that he will eventually die. To think other wise makes me incredibly sad when you consider that he would live on past the end of time. Especially the end of time that the ep Utopia represents. What happens to Jack when everything else in the whole universe is dust? No people, no sun, no food, no water..... no planets............ just endless nothing. Thats just terrible to even think about. So while I don`t like the idea that Jack is THE Face of Boe, the alternative is too awful to think about.

Awh that Angel ep breaks my litte heart I loved John Simm too, I thought he was ace, he did for DW what James Marsters did for Torchwood.. excellent Gosh you're right.. oh he HAS to be 'the Face of Boe' Please, please.. otherwise it's just horrible.... **sniff, weep**

On a much happier note........ Has anyone else realised that in 1940, there would have been THREE Capt Jacks on earth..... (not counting the original American whose name he stole). The one sealed in the Cardiff Torchwood`s vaults. The one who escaped from the Game Station after the Doctor ran away from him. And the one who was trying to sell the Chula Medical ship. At a stretch, you could even include the Capt Jack who went back in time with Toshiko, which makes 4!!!! Now THAT would make for an interesting "time Crash" type story!!

Ha ha ha!!! I'd never thought of it! Yes, the 4 Jacks sat down for a drink together... The whole world would probably implode!! So how old is Jack now then???? About 2250 years old??

Hello! To comment on a few of the things yo've been talking about! Yup, that episode of Angel is soo sad, it has me blubbing every single time! And i too loved John Simm and would love for him to be able to come back even though i know that it is almost impossible! What i'd really love is John Simm as the Doctor, and i know that obviously could never happen, but it would just be so awesome!! Also agree that Jack being the face of Boe would be some comfort. The thought of living forever always sounds good but, as for Angel, you always have to consider the people that you will always have to lose or leave behind! Wow, 4 captain Jack's! Now that would be something! He'd prob start flirting with his multiple selves! lol!
