So how many of you are geeks?
Define "geek"?

Doctor: You`re an echo. That`s all. A TimeLord is so much more. A sum of knowledge; a code. A shared history. A shared suffering. Only it`s gone now, all of it. Gone forever.
Should I be all the above to be a geek? or does just one category qualify me as being one?
So, as I asked. Define "geek".

Well have you ever bitten the head off a live chicken?
I guess the term geek is generally used by the less-intelligent to deride the more-intelligent. Originally it was supposed to mean "smart but socially inept" but the socially inept part seems to have become less important in a society that increasingly applauds ignorance and mediocrity.
Of course studies have shown that the average IQ of sci-fi fans is well above 100, and so of course sci-fi has a geeky reputation.
A few years ago the more-intelligent decided to take the word as their own and held geek-pride marches in the US. It was their way of saying that people shouldn't be embarrassed to be brainy.
Anf if a fellow geek calls you a geek then it's a term of camaraderie.
So we should all embrace our geekiness, and laugh at those simple fools who think they insult us when they call us geeks
Generally, a geek is somebody with a love of technology, or some particular aspect of it. As opposed to a nerd, who is an obsessive.
Well - I do love gagdets.
And I am obsessive about certain TV shows and books.
Does that make me a geeky nerd?
Or a nerdy geek?
Or just plain mad?

Beekles. It sounds like I have a weird beak. Or a huge nose. Neither of which I think I have. My nose isn't that big...
If you had a wierd beak, or a huge nose you would be called GONZO, not beekles.

Apart from that, I`m far too big to fit into a little box.
What was the question again?

Hmmmmm......
"social life".?
Having a job like mine - ie working 12 hour night shifts, tends to restrict "normal" socialising anyway.
Meeting new people? can do that in the forum without spending loadsamoney in a smoke filled pub.
Meeting people who like the same or similar things? Can do that here (or on other forums, depending upon the subject matter).
Can have a laugh and a joke with virtually everyone in THIS forum. And this forum has peolple of all ages and backgrounds friendly with each other. Whereas in the REAL world we probably wouldn`t meet, even if we all happened to live in the same small town.

Using a computer and the Internet is technological. You like using them though?
