Just found this and thought you guys would want to know! "SG-1 Ends Run; Atlantis Back
SCI FI Channel confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series Stargate Atlantis for a fourth year. SG-1 aired its 200th episode on Aug. 18, and the SF series is the longest-running SF show on American television.
SCI FI issued the following statement on Aug. 21: "SCI FI Channel is proud to be the network that brought Stargate SG-1 to its record-breaking 10th season. Ten seasons and 215 episodes is an astounding, Guinness World Record-setting accomplishment. Stargate is a worldwide phenomenon. Having achieved so much over the course of the past 10 years, SCI FI believes that the time is right to make this season their last on the channel. SCI FI is honored to have been part of the Stargate legacy for five years, and we look forward to continuing to explore the Stargate universe with our partners at MGM through a new season of Stargate Atlantis."
Stargate SG-1, developed for television by executive producers Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, is based on the 1994 feature film Stargate. SG-1, which originally starred Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge, began on Showtime, then moved to SCI FI after five seasons. The current cast includes Tapping, Shanks and Judge and newcomers Ben Browder, Claudia Black and Beau Bridges. It airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. "
Thanks Claw. Its a shame, it really is. Hopefully more crossovers with Atlantis and stars of SG-1 will occur, even if they're not making any more eps of SG-1.

In repsonse to my last post I have found this piece of news and fingers crossed its true!
Don't count Stargate SG-1 out just yet. Though SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running series (story), the show's producers are hard at work looking for a new outlet for the story to continue, executive producer Robert C. Cooper told GateWorld exclusively.
"As far as the future I can't comment yet because nothing has been confirmed," Cooper said. "What we want to emphasize is that the franchise is not dying. SG-1 will go on in some way. We're just not ready to announce how."
A formal announcement from the studio and the network is expected later this week.
Cooper also emphasizes that, though emotions are running high among Stargate fans who have just learned the news, it is important to keep the show's ratings strong throughout the remainder of its run on SCI FI. "What's most important is that fans don't take out their frustration with SCI FI by not watching," he said. "In fact, what they need to do is watch both SG-1 and Atlantis LIVE and make sure the ratings stay strong.
"That helps prove to other outlets that might be interested in SG-1 that the show is still as strong as we think it is."
I am not sure about the terrestrial rights for either show, I think T4 is more keen on showing Charmed and then smallville poss. I think they are doing so as it appeals to its target audience. In the mean time may I suggest buying it on Dvd as if the DVD market booms like it did for Family Guy then who knows!!
Lol, this topic didnt show up when I first logged in so I posted it, ignore it completely!
Sad news though but hopefully another channel will pick it up in the U.S even if ch4 wont over here, at least then can buy the DVD's! Although a mini series would be good... if they need to to tie up loose ends and stuff. It gives a chance for Atlantis to stand alone as well i guess, see how well it goes without SG1, and they have had better ratings for a while now. Anyways, off to cry a little....

Lets hope another channel picks it up, or a film gets made. Never really liked mini-series but anything would be good to finish the SG-1 story."
i suppose it had to happen eventually, but like the article says, it was the first season since number 4 that they actually were expecting another series, which is ironic that its been cancelled!
Lets just hope something does happen, because no doubt the season finale, like normal will be a good cliffhanger, unless the final episode gets changed ofcourse
Hey the BBC should pick it up, they throw money at a whole range of crap shows, how bout they dont do that for a year, fire some people (cause they're all ridiculously overpaid) and I'm sure they'd be able to save enough to pay for it! No? Lol, maybe not.

I can see it now BBC America presents Stargate SG-1! How hilarious is that, although atleast they would put it on at a sensible timeslot if syndicated on BBC One over here. Childrens programs in the afternoons on weekdays stop it going there. Sport and News and Lottery Stop it going early on a saturday, and Eastenders Omnibus Songs of Praise and Antiques Roadshow stop and afternoon slot on Sundays. So atleast it would get a later showing.
Is it me, or have i gone into far to much scheduling detail?
haha! i thought as much. but i was just pointing out the positive bit of the BBC, although thinking about it, it would probably be put on bbc 2 on a thursday night at 11:35 after newsnight :P
And be honest, no matter how good Ben Browder is, he`s never going to successfully replace RDA. And RDA was starting to turn O`Neill into a charactature of the person that Jack started out being.
Oh, and I reserve the right to completely change my opinion on this matter once season 10 starts on Sky. Any knowledgable person got any dates as to when SG1 starts on sky? it`s gotta be soon though??
******************************** John Smith: So what am I then? Nothing. I`m just a story.
Doctor: You`re an echo. That`s all. A TimeLord is so much more. A sum of knowledge; a code. A shared history. A shared suffering. Only it`s gone now, all of it. Gone forever.
What I heard is it didn't get cancled. But they chose not to do another series because Michael Shanks wouldn't sign for another series. I'm pretty sure thats true! I think! lol
Charlie from lost is the best! I have no obsession with Carl Barat! Em-J looks suspicious! We were NOT wearing womens clothes, they were our own clothes. They just happened to be dresses!-Billie-Jo Armstrong Officially voted the forums biggest attenion seeker.
SG1 is awesome. Its the best sci fi on TV. Atlantis sucks. I've disliked it from the begining. IMO the only reason Atlantis has better figures is due to it being shown after SG! and some of the people watching SG1 miss and come in dueing the ep. They also don't count people the record it onto whatever system they use (in America so TiVo things like that).
Appartently another reason they are canceling it for it due to the price for renewing a licence after 10 years... with MGM for the SG1 name. I suggest they keep the cast; just say its a new series... call it something different... change the scenario a little...
Theres only like 5 of the original cast left (Teal'c, Daniel, Sam, Walter and Siler IIRC)... its almost a newcast >_>
Or you could just dump the whole SG1 cast in Atlantis...
I do not agree with that comment. Atlantis is very good and season 3 with another enemy in the works is very good indeed!

That would be a good plan actually. They were going to call it 'Stargate Command' at the begining of season 9 but sci-fi did not like that. So if sci-fi arent letting SG1 be aired on another american network surely calling it Stargate Command would by-pass that. A mass advertising strategy would be in order to let people now of the change, who only watch sg1 casualy.

As much as i love the SG1 cast putting them permanentaly in atlantis would completey ruin the show and its uniqueness. If SG1 does not return, sure have them guesting every so often, but sg1 a permanent fixture in atlantis wouldnt make it atlantis anymore.
Also, just putting them in atlantis would make no sense, because if they didn't have to stay on Earth they would have totally gone anyway, especially Daniel, and Carter probably too. Unless in the last episode Earth gets destroyed and by some strange fluke SG1 are they only one's to escape...
And wouldn't it be so cool it the BBC picked it up? I mean wow, we might like, get to see it first and stuff! And could enter the get in the gate competitions and stuff....
