What scares me is that, while it's good that SG-1 was given enough time to wrap things up and finish the series on a high, it has also allowed enough time for the writers - if they so choose - to carve their way through the cast of Atlantis, kill some of them off at the end of the season and replace them with SG-1 cast. Apparently Paul McGillion is reported to have said at a recent convention that this might happen.

It won't work if they do it. Atlantis fans - especially those who are fans of particular characters - will leave if their favourite character is killed off, and SG-1 fans won't necessarily follow their idols over to Atlantis if they didn't like the series in the first place.

Replacing Atlantis characters with SG-1 characters will kill off Atlantis quicker than anything else, IMO. And I have particular fears for the Chucknician who - like Grodin before him - might get offed in favour of Walter Harriman!

I hadnt even thought of that! That'd be awful if they did that! Atlantis has a great ensemble cast, I mean how would they take that both on screen and off? Also, Paul McGillion said that? If they get rid of him I'll cry...

Beckett: He fainted.
McKay: Oh there's gotta be a better word.
Beckett: Faint is a proper medical term.
McKay: I passed out from... manly hunger!

If any of the SG1 MAIN cast relocate to Atlantis, then there will be a problem with WHO are the stars of the show.

Would it be fair for Joe Flanagan, and Torrie Higginson to become second best in a show they started off as the main stars in, and who successfully carried the show for two years?

Would any of the 4 main SG1 actors be willing to become subsiduary actors portraying charactors that held their own show for 10 years?

SG1 will probably finish without a cliffhanger, leaving the impression that everything is carrying on as usual, just that we will no longer be sharing their adventures with them. This will leave it open for SG1 members to make ocasional (or even frequent) visits to Atlantis as guest stars, either individually, or as the complete SG1 team.

John Smith: So what am I then? Nothing. I`m just a story.

Doctor: You`re an echo. That`s all. A TimeLord is so much more. A sum of knowledge; a code. A shared history. A shared suffering. Only it`s gone now, all of it. Gone forever.

That's definitely the best idea, Angelus, and one which the majority of fans would like to see. But since when have the writers listened to the fans?!

Actually, I can see them putting every single major character on Atlantis in mortal jeopardy at the end of the last Season 3 episode, then sitting back smugly and waiting to see which actors are willing to sign up to a less than usual pay rise for next season!

Whilst I would agree that Atlantis has been hit or miss the last two seasons, season 3 hasnt been that bad. It will be interesting to see how season 4 is though, as all the creative team will now be able to focus on the one show, unless the SG1 issue is solved.

Speaking of that, I have read someone where that within the contract that SCI FI had there was a clause that states that new episodes of the show cant be produced/shown on US tv.

Which means that the options for future SG projects are either DVD, Mini Series (produced and aired outside the US and then sold on DVD stateside), A series financed outside the US and shown around the world and a deal made with SCI FI to show it or allow someone else to (I would think SKY would be a safe bet as they did co-fund the new BSG's first season) or lastly a series made and sold online.

What I would say though is that whatever they do, this time I would hope the producers make sure that none of these such clauses are put into their deals as this would have doubtless resulted in a much quicker resolution to this issue.

Yep that is true. Hence why people are trying to get the BBC to take it up. However, there is no clause in the contract that says they can launch on an American Network with a different name. Producers wanted to call it Stargate Command when season 9 started. So thats possible, also a Stargate TV Movie can also be shown on another US Network not sure about how a mini-series would work, probably would have to be renamed to something as it would carry the SG-1 title! It certainly is the weirdest contract and you wonder why the MGM bought into the contract with such a rubbish clause.

Does anyone else feel that the spin-off, Atlantis has kinda lost the plot. I'm a fan from the original concept and film. I loved the SG1 series even though later seasons seemed to concentrate on space based events. The whole concept of the original film and series was that a ring was found, it allowed travel to other worlds, worlds that man explored. The core to it all being references to ancient cultures, especially the Egyptians. I don't feel this was explored in depth sufficiantly. There's still so much that could be made based on our knowledge and theories of ancient cultures, especially the Egyptians. I would love to see a spin off that takes us back to where it started. Story lines could include the birth of man (the seed sown by an asteriod that collided with earth, leaving water and creating our moon), the extinction of the dinosaurs etc etc.

The series kind of moved on from all that when it changed networks to Sci-fi after season 5. It needed to happen, everything was getting very samey and if a series is to survive more then 6-7 seasons it needs to expand its premise. And thats exactly what it did.

Its rumored the writers want to end the series with a massive cliffhanger, which they want to resolve with TV Movies in the future.

I heard different to that. I heard that Series 10 would be rounded off nicely and that it would be a round up for series 10 but not the end of the story. Haven't heard anything about an alternative outlet for the conclusion though.
