Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes.
I was too young to watch it the first time around.
But eventually it was repeated (on C4 I believe) for the first time. I was an adult then.
It didn`t make sense then. And according to various newspapers and magazines at the time (internet was not available then), the "experts" didnt understand it either.

My dad used to wastch it when he was a kid and he bought the box set so I've seen a few of them. - I heard it was coming back to ITV with Christopher Eccleston in the lead role...

And even if it was, it`s not definite he`s going to be in it.
He was on a list of names who "may" be considered for the part "if" it was going to be made.

Here is some interesting trivia "Rover", the menacing white balloon that acts as a surreal sentry in The Village, was supposed to have been a large robotic machine. During the filming of the first episode, it was supposed to travel across water on a pair of rails hidden under the surface. The machine fell off the rails and into the water, damaging the motors inside. Just then, a weather balloon passed by, and McGoohan came upon the idea of "Rover" being a large white balloon that traveled by itself. The reason the cast stands still as Rover wanders past is because the balloon is being pulled by a wire. The shots were then run backwards, and edited into the film (In one episode, smoke can be seen drifting back into a chimney in the distance as Rover passes by). so it wasn't a balloon on string attached to the leg of the escapee as I thought

I've read the new series is not being filmed in Port Merion Just wont be the same.
I watched the prisoner in the '80s too. They did a documentry about it too - interesting stuff. The show was made week to week, hence when McGoohan was off filming Ice Station Zebra he was only in that weeks show for the 1st & last scene. The doco also claimed the writers had no idea how to end it & so just cobbled together the final one.

I heard years ago that the original Port Merion was demolished, so it couldn`t be filmed there anyway.
quote:
its a co production with US cable network so it should b fine as long they keep the basics of thr show.
"keeping to the basics of the show" isn`t going to be good enough.
Being co produced by a US cable network means that the Yanks are looking for big ratings, not a quirky little cult show. Even the original series didn`t hit the ratings high enough to get another season in the UK. It`s popularity nowadays has come with hindsight, and people remembering though rose tinted glasses.
Nothing made today is going to stand up to that, even if they do keep to the "basics".

Yeah I heard that too. Shame, cos it looked like a pretty little place, and very quirky.
The final episode isn't meant to be taken literally; it's allegorical. Apparently the entire series is, but most of it also made some kind of sense when taken literally, the last episode didn't.
Basically it's all about the fact that ultimately we're all prisoners of ourselves, hiding behind our masks and deceiving ourselves.
The big balloons could have worked well allegorically, suggesting that men are held captivated by big boobs, except that the balloons rarely travelled in pairs...
Personally I thought the last episode was Number Two. McGoohan was attacked in the street after the last episode aired; some people who were avid fans of the series really hated the final ep.
Why do I think the US version will basically be Prison Break? Hey, perhaps they'll set it in Guantanamo Bay!

I don't know where you heard that, but it's still there. Weather there have been significant changes since the sixties, I don't know, but from the website, it looks the same.
I can`t remember where I heard it, but it was several years ago.
Perhaps I heard that they had plans to demolish it, and then they never actually went through with it?
I know my friend was upset at hearing the news, as she was a big Prisoner fan, and had wanted to visit the place. When I next see her, I`ll ask if she realises that the place still exists.

I`ve just googled "demolishing Portmerion" and came up with the most logical reason why bug and I heard that Port Merion had been demolished.
Several OTHER locations used in the filming of the show have been demolished.
For instance: **The huge MGM backlot also played host to several Prisoner scenes, including the town of Harmony, the town of Witchwood from "The Girl Who Was Death" as well as the Recreation Hall area from several episodes and the "French Street" from "A, B, and C" and Kandersfeld in "Do Not Forsake". The backlot itself made way for housing estate some years ago, after being demolished in 1974. **
