Hi: I am a bit of a cult veteran, but I'm running out of quality shows to get into. Any suggestions. Below are the shows I have already seen/enjoyed:

Doctor Who
Star Trek (ALL different TV shows, and films)
Blakes 7
Babylon 5
Buffy
Angel
Smallville
Farscape
Dark Angel

As I have got older I've found more quality, and enjoyed things with more 'adult' themes. In the last couple of years I have LOVED Angel, Smallville and Farscape. But is there anything of similar quality that I can now turn to??? Heroism, intelligent story arks, and the odd love-interest all go down well with me!

Suggestions GREATLY appreciated.

Try Firefly by Joss Whedon. Space westerny, wise-cracking, adventures. Only 14 episodes but they are right crackers. The boxset is going very cheap now on Amazon (12.97) or Choices (11.95 I think).

I'd also recommend Stargate.

You'd have to start from the beginning with Stargate, though. It's currently on about season eight or nine, and IMHO it's no longer worth watching. On the whole I find myself in a similar situation to you, though, Herojcb. The premature axing of Angel has left a big hole. (And anybody who says that the hole is Wesley-shaped gets shot Razz ). Right now I'm not sure that there is anything. Lost is well worth watching and sticking with. That's off air at the moment, and the box set has only just come out, so it's expensive. The 4400, which has just started on Sky Three, looks like it might be worth persevering with. Other than that, at the moment I'm mostly revisiting the sixties, courtesy of ITV4 and the ITC back catalogue. Smile

The 4400 is definately worth persevering with, its a fine show! I've watched the whole of the first season and about two-thirds of the 2nd and its got better and better

Have to agree with ABBP, The 4400 is a really good show. Have seen seasons 1 & 2 and looking forward to a 3rd.

I'm currently on season 7 of Stargate but it just doesn't seem as good as previous seasons. Is season 8 any better? I own all the boxsets & I'm wondering whether or not to cut my loses with this show.

Anyone here know where I can get the last season of Angel in the old style? Since they have re-released the earlier boxsets I'm struggling to find it at a reasonable price.

I highly recommend Firefly Herojcb.

It only had 15 eps but its very much like Blakes7/Farscape.

I would avoid Andromeda and Mutant X at all costs they are rubbish. IMHO I would avoid Stargate. Its tooooo long now and IMO season 8 and 9 are bad.

You could watch Roswell that was fairly good at times espcially when it went more sci-fi in season 2.

I would highly recommend series 4 of Sliders. Its not on TV or DVD though but maybe one day. Everystory in this season was good IMO.

The first season of Roswell was good. It was kind of like The OC but with added weirdness. The second season was rubbish, though.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I remain a little disillusioned, however. It is very hard to find new stuff to compete with the like of Angel, Smallville and Farscape (or perhaps Babylon 5 -- Crusade was disappointing).

I did give Stargate a good go, but I found it lacking in 'substance' or depth. The only thing that put me off buying the Firefly boxed set was the fact that I saw the film version Serenity. So I guess I know what happens.

I will keep my eye out for 4400, and perhaps try Lost. And I will keep praying for new things, perhaps from the creators of Angel, Farscape, and Smallville. At least Smallville continues, for a while yet I hope.

I saw Firefly after Serenity but don't think I lost out. Definately worth watching and Serenity was much better to see again after watching the series.

And Stargate lacking in substance!! Are you sure you've seen it? Sorry-I just love it, seasons 3-6 in particular! I'm really enjoying Stargate Atlantis at the moment but not sure if it can be watched without having seen SG-1, think it probably can and it's only a couple of seasons in (season 1 boxset released tomorrow Big Grin)

Or find the DVD's of "V". Classic 80's sci-fi. Pure brilliance. The DVD's are always dirt cheap in the HMV sales bins. There were two miniseries and 1 not quite so great regular series.

Hero, have you seen Sapphire And Steel? Early eighties sci-fi series from ITV? It's out on DVD now, and it's absolutely bloody excellent. Smile

Yes V is good up to final battle part 3. Libertaion Day was okay but then its rubbish after that. How come their voices become normal in the series. I mean it can't be an expensive effect!

Firefly is not just good its fantastic. Don't matter if you have seen the film as the River story is only talked about in a few episodes there are plenty of other stories.

You could watch Odyssey 5 which only ran for 20 episodes. Although roughly every 25 seconds there is a swear word from Peter Weller.

Try Veronica Mars. There is nothing supernatural or sci-fi about it but it is ace.

I wouldn't bother with Lost though. S2 is crap IMO. I don't know why I keep watching it. In the hope it will get better I guess.
