Hmm, have a review of what "The one," is for a mo BRG... Well we've seen sheridan as a centari... (cruel aint i?)

Hmm, as for Lennier- never underestimate the power of the bone. No one knows what will robinson is capable of.

Enjoy the last ten, I envy you very, very much...(oh to trade places and not know the things I know...damn first timers seeing them in the right order...no offense.)

- What I want to know is, where were the rangers during the minbari civil war... why weren't they involved?

Crazy--- Get off your horse and drink your milk! (Or should that be get off your white star and eat your flarn?)

Rangers- never- bluff.

Your sounding like a Vorlon again Angel! Big Grin I still remember some of your other cryptic comments that baffeled poor BRG. Most notably was the one at the end of season 3, when you told me that Sheridan dies at Za'Ha'Dum, but is in the shows final scene in season 5! Roll Eyes Confusion plagued BRG for weeks! Big Grin And what about that wee line you added in every comment during my first 2 seasons of the show- " As for Talia, all I'll say is Wink" .

So, I'm right, but I'm also wrong! Red Face Ok, I recon either 1. Sheridan & Delenn's son David will become Minbari leader 20 years into the future.(Bet you never thought of that!) 2. Earth & Minbar unite and Sheridan becomes leader of Minbar, and Delenn becomes President of Earth!(Even more outlandish, but maybe those Ranger amulates have more meaning than we thought! Wink) or 3. Sheridan dies, and his soul is reborn into the newborn Minbari who will eventually become leader!(The most bizaar idea yet! But they have been telling us that human & Minbari souls are merging, maybe it was all leading up to this!).

Well, lets see if any of those predictions come true. They are pretty wild, but should give you somthing to ponder.

Wow, thems some interesting predictions...if only you knew...

i'm considering watching all of b5 in order... from "the gathering" right through to ...well, sleeping in light their time, but legend of the rangers our time. Probably S.i.l-- its something i've neverdone, i've only ever got as far as season 2- then got bored and watched "The summoning," in s4- one of my favorite episodes...i'll be watching s1 and thinking about Marcus or i'll be watching s2 and thinking about sinclair! Or i'll pick out a connection I never picked on before and have to wind forward a few seasons to see if i'm right in thinking thoses threads are related.

Found some really funny stuff online, people having a go at JMS and the show in general. A piece of advice to those willing to challenge him- don't. He can argue his way out of anything! Be it charecters, technical or spacial! Well the guy has two degrees, not to mention the balls to make this show! I wish I were that clever/brave/insane!

Has anyone read any of his spiderman comics... I never thought Spiderman would get so dirty! JMS also wrote the 9/11 comic- whenever I read it I get either Mira Furlan or Andreas Katsulas voice in my head- the narrations so...profound.

Anyway, s4- Ther'm gonna be a fight!

Rangers- never- bluff.

BRG, again, all I can say is that you're both right AND wrong Wink

crazy_ranger, I've read the JMS Spiderman comics, superb. You might want to check out his Midnight Nation as well, not to mention Rising Stars which will finally conclude this summer.

Is rising stars any good then? I heard a rumour they were gonna make a movie but didn't want JMS to write the script- because of course having only written for tv for- oh nearly twenty years now he can't know that much about charectersiations and layout and audience demographics...not to mention he wrote a book on scriptwriting.... sorry. Sarcasm mode off.

Ever worried that the little Marcus in your head is going to take over? If I say "Bloody hell," one more time today i'll scream! Not to mention I got up today and my family were talking about the comic potential of the word "Badger." ARGH!!!

Okay good quote from season 5 today--

"Dammit Delenn! I've been working up a good mad all day and i'm not going to let you ruin it by agreeing with me!"-- Sheridan

I am going to watch them all in order- probably in october though when i'm at uni and homesick.

Has anyone noticed that very often in standalone-ish episodes the a+b stories in B5 are related...but not until much further down the road? I.e- Revelations- Sheridan gets over his wife, Delenn comes out of cocoon. Or how well the show's cut...i.e in "The summoning," We have Lita screaming as evil Kosh gets nasty.....and then we cut to londo going..."A little scream," Or in "Messages from earth," we go from Sheridan and Delenn hand holding, to Marcus and Ivanova having a minor tiff involving fifteen wild badgers.
"Fighting they say, is a form of loving. In that way we got as close to you as we could without actually knocking your teeth out,"- Hawkeye Pierce -- maybe he had a point. (Now i'm winding the first timers up aint i?)

He he, anyway, today I most certainly prefer ferrets.

"If vir can be emperor- a small earth cat can be emperor!"

Rangers- never- bluff.

RISING STARS is superb, typical JMS, highly recommended. In the argument over the movie JMS of course always had the ultimate comeback, which he used to get his way in the end. No involvement with the movie equals you not getting the final three scripts Smile It's delayed the comicbook series for a while bu the final three are finally heading our way this summer. Check out MIDNIGHT NATION as well though, again, typical JMS, top quality.

I'm planning a B5 revisitation myself as well at some point, perhaps in the summer when everything else is on summer hiatus. It's been a few years since I've gone all the way through, the DVD sets give me the perfect excuse. Sad to see that there's still no release date as far as I'm aware for the S5 set Frown May have to give in and get the R1 set which is already out Frown

Oh it'll come out alright, it's just a matter of when. If we think that Season 3 came out last November and Season 4 only came out in April, it's likely to be october/November time again before they get Season 5 out.

It looks like it's going to have to be Region 1.

I've started going over Season 1 again.(to combat the urge to watch all of Season 4 too quick) And a number of thing which I failed to pick up on first time around jump out at you now that I know more about what happens down the line.
What really did suprise me was the amount of wee, seemingly unimportant thing in 'The Gathering' which pointed to major things in future seasons. The Battle of The Line was an obvious plot thread that would be reviseted. But if you recall, Dr Kyle metioned he was taking stims in an offhanded remark to Takashima-this would be a huge character story for Dr Franklin in season 3. In the same conversation, Takashima mentioned that there has been troble in Mars past- this theme pops up throughout the series, and seems to be coming to a head towards the end of season 4(BRG is up to episode 4.16 'The Exercise of Vital Powers')
One thing that seems pretty clear now, is that the 'assasination attempt' on Kosh was a sham. It looks like Kosh & Delenn were testing Sinclair. Remember Delenn's line when she abstained in council vote-"I have been instructed to observe". Plus, in Season 4, when Sheridan tryed to kill the new Kosh, he hit him with more fire power than the Hood & Bismark, to no effect. It took The Shadows to kill the original Kosh, amd a remenant of the original Kosh to kill the new Kosh, so I doubt if any lesser race could kill a Vorlon with a handshake!

It makes you wonder what the series would have been like with the cast of The Gathering? On the whole, I reckon most of the changes are for the better. I liked Sinclair but Sheridan is a huge improvement, Ivanova is light years ahead of Takashima, Although he's not my favourite character, I can't imagine B5 without Franklin, and the only mistake I think they made-replacing Lyta Alexander with Talia Winters, was rectified in season 3!
But, it was clear even back then that Londo & G'Kar were going to be two of the greatest characters ever! Cool But I never liked Delenn's original look, much to hard & angular. In season 1 it looked far better.
BRG

ps- BRG has a habbit of pointing out wee homages to Lord of the Rings in B5, but I have only realised I missed the biggest of all! Red Face Roll Eyes
In LOTR, Gandalf goes to Khazad-dum against the council of his closest ally Aragorn, falls into the abyss to his death, is brought back to life by Galadriel- the Lady of Lorien, and returns at the breaking of the Fellowship to turn the tide! But although the same, is somehow differant...
In B5, Sheridan goes to Za'Ha'Dum against the council of his closest ally Delenn, falls into the abyss to his death, is brought back to life by Lorien, returns at the breaking of the Alliance to turn the tide! But although the same, is somehow differant...

ah the LOTR connections-

Whatabout rangers? Marcus looking striderish,
Minbari are elves, Lorien, The grey council looking like ringwraiths, Shadow ships screaming...there are a few more but that'd be getting into spoiler country.

Ah the pilot, in the 2nd version of it I think they re-cut takashimas performance, as in the original edition of it she was sooooo stiff i wanted to slap her one! But in the one I aquired recently she doesnt seem nearly as bad. All I can say is... THANK GOD THEY GOT RID OF CAROLYN! URGH! JEFF HOW COULD YOU!- I mean the B5 drinking game is so much more fun when you have Cathrine and you drink everytime her or Sinclair mention "The academy," (I think it was an in joke as well if you watch the featurette)

Thats the great thing about B5- the consistancy- thats what drove me mad about Star Trek- just the little things- like Datas cat changing sex! In B5 we meet Lyta in the pilot and don't see her again until season 2, bring her back for a couple in season 3 and then have her as a main charecter in season 4+5. In season 5 they mention Dr Kyle a couple of times, we hear about Na'grath...and i'm about to head into spoiler counrty again aint i? (Zooty- zoot zoot!)

(Rebo! Is that your ass or mine?)
Oh dear...
ne who,

do watch season 4- do enjoy it. We'll be here when your done... however you feel about what happens. (Was that too ominous?)

Quote of the day:
"I now take great comfort in the general hostility of the universe!" - Marcus in one of his philosophical moods.

Last night I watched 2 amazing episodes of B5.

First was 'The Face of the Enemy', which brought Mr Garabaldi's story arc to a dramatic conclusion, and also explained what happened to him at the start of the season. As I sensationally predicted it was the Psi Corp & Bester who were behind it all! They used him as an unwitting spy(much like Talia) originally to keep an eye on Sheridan & co, but Bester hit the jackpot when he quit his job, and joined up with Wade, and eventually Edgars himself!
He was a pretty effective agent was Garibaldi, not only did he prevent a holocaust against the telepaths, but he also captured Sheridan. But now that Bester has reliesed him, he is stuck between a rock and a hard place, he cant go to B5, he is still anti Clark, so a return to Earth looks out. I recon he hill hunt down Lise, after all she is missing on Mars.

The second episode I watched was the amazing 'Intersections in Real Time'.
WOW! Eek This was quality, and a bold move for a sci fi show at it's most intense point of its story.
What we had was essensially a stage play. An interogation room, 2 chairs, a table, and for 95% of the episode, just two actors playing off each other. No space battles, no gun fights, no comic interplay with Marcus, just the room for the WHOLE episode!
Like Patrick Stewart in TNG episode 'Chain of Command pt2', Boxleitner gave an astounding performace as a man driven to the brink by his tormentor, but still hold on to his sanity and refuses to break. The use of light & sound, the everyday apperance of the inquizitor, the way he would alter his attack from 'guy just doing his job' to 'outraged patriot', from punisment shocks to rewards of food, and the occasional use of a 3rd party-the Drazi, all of this drew you into the room with Sheridan. An amazing episode, with two astounding performances by Boxleinter and his tormentor(who I'm afraid I do not know)
With Ivanova & the Fleet marching towards Earth, Garibaldi alone & friendless on Mars, Franklin & Lyta on a mission with the Martian Resistance, and with Delenn, Londo & G'Kar all doing there own thing back on B5. It was a bold move to drop all of that to focus solely on Sheridan. How many other shows would be brave enough to run this episode without a B story? And to top it all off, the episode ended with Sheridan being taken to be executed, but instead it all started over again from the very first line-"Do you have any allergies....."
Billiant Cool

In the original version Takashima would have had Jack's character progression. It would have been her shooting Garibaldi in the back at the end of the first season. There was a scene in the Pilot episode which would have alluded to this but they cut it.

Needless to say it would also have been Sakai lost on Z'ha'dum rather than Anna in the original order of things.

The series would also have ended in year 5 with Sinclair going back through time as he did in WAR WITHOUT END to become Valen.

Just a few nuggets of info Wink

Ok, as I've said, I have been watching some of the key episodes of season 1 again, and I have a few wee comments & predictions.

First off, I really liked Na'Toth in season 1 played by Cathlin Brown. She had an amusing glint in her eye when dealing with some of G'Kar's rants, and she & G'Kar played brilliantly off one and other. I never really took to Mary Kay Adams as Na'Toth in season 2, but I would have loved to have seen if Na'Toth would have developed over the series like Vir & Lennier have.
Second, It is amazing just how much G'Kar & Londo have changed over the series. And one wee point of this that I have only just realised is the Garibaldi's relationship with G'Kar in season 3-4 was pretty much like his relationship with Londo in season 1-2. It's an amazing achivement with what these two characters have done, both have done despicable deeds, both have done feats of heroism, both have switched from good to bad and back again, and yet you still love both characters! I take my hat off to Mr Straczynski, Mr Katsulas and Mr Jurasik! Cool
And my last point, do you remember the episode 'Survivors'? When Garibaldi was framed for sabotage and turned back too drink, at the end of the episode we told Sinclair that although it worked out this time, what about next time? And Jeff said "As long as you have your friends behind you"
Well, in Sesaon 4, Garibaldi is in a very bad situation. He can't go to B5, can't go to Earth, so he may go to the bottle! only this time he has no friends.(except Lise!)
BRG

PS-Crazy Ranger, here is another LOTR homage. Did you not think that Lorien, the Shadows, The Vorlons and the rest of the First Ones leaving our galaxy never to return was very much like Gandalf, Frodo, Bilbo and the Elves leaving Middle Earth for the Undieing Lands never to return? Wink

That particular analogue becomes even stronger later on.

Remember though that there are many Arthurian analogues in both B5 and LotR, which could account for some of their commonalities.

B5 also likes to delve into greek mythology- as it will in the last few episodes of s4. It was quite cool last year when me and Artemis were researching for a classic civ project and found all these B5 links.

As for BRG- Yes. But I will say no more. For not all tears are evil.

As for Mr Garibaldi (Insert londo voice) my my, isn't Ivanova pissed off at him? Even Marcus was shocked (And you couldn't shock him with an electric fence)!

Enjoy the last few BRG...at times you may find it difficult to watch...or is that just me?

ohoh! Intersections! Did you pick up the "In" joke? When Sheridan is asked if he's been interegated before, he replies yes (Comes the inquisitor- s2)- The interragator asks if it was anyone he knows. Sheridan replies...you'd be suprised! - Funny in two ways--
1) As in Jack the ripper interrogating Sheridan,
2) As in Wayne Alexander who played Sebastian (Jack- whoever!) also played the Drazi in that episode. Hehe- very funny Mr Straczynski.

As for Na'toth- well...it's not over until the pak'ma'ra sings.

.... thats about it, apart from those stupid Monty Python Parodies i've been writing. (If I sing the lumberjack sony one more time i'll scream!)

Quote of the day:

"Just my Luck! First time in my life i'm a war hero and no-one knows about it! And worst of all i'm married to you."- Marcus in one of his less lucid moments.

Rangers- never- bluff.

Indeed Crazy Ranger, my expression was about the same As the one on Marcus face when Ivanova said "If Garibaldi turns up on the station, I want the bastard shot!" EekBig Grin But I was way off the mark regarding what would happen to Garibaldi, thanks to Lyta's enhanced telepathic abillities(and her cool 'Black Eyes' effect) she saved him from being executed by the resistance, and then he led a rescue mission for Sheridan.

The can't kill off Ivanova! Eek Frown As I left the story off last night, Susan was on her death bed, with a tearfull Marcus keeping a silent vigil. And a grim but determined Sheridan back in command of the EAS Agamemnon. They said she has a few days before the end, so BRG is still holding out hope for a miracle. Who knows, maybe Dr Franklin will bring out his Life Transferance Machine from season 1!

Well, I have Friday off so I'm going to hold off watching the final 3 episodes until Thursday night. I'll get some popcorn, turn the lights off, put the volume up on the TV, and enjoy all 3 back to back!
The on Friday, I'll come on here and pester you all with questions & comments. You have been warned! Wink
BRG

ps-Ranger, I did indeed get the wee joke about being interogated before. But I never knew that the same Actor that played The Ripper also appeared as the Drazi!
Thanks for pointing that out! Smile

Ah. Poor 'ol Susan Frown That rather fetching head brace as modelled by Daniel Beddingfield earlier in the year Wink

That story's not entirely played out yet BRG, but be warned, have the tissues handy.....

The last three episodes; ENDGAME, RISING STAR and DECONSTRUCTION OF FALLING STARS, all rivetting for purely different reasons.

ENDGAME is for me one of the most powerful hours of television I've ever seen. RISING STAR is interesting, very critical in itself to the future of the series and the political climate. DECONSTRUCTION, well, that has to be seen to be believed. Different is the word there Smile

Enjoy BRG, I can't tell you how much I envy you at this point.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT WATCH ENDGAME!!!!
(slaps herself)

Sorry- getting hysterical there. (Rocks herself with unwanted knowledge)

Trust me- if you react in anyway like I did to Endgame and Rising Star- you'll never get over it. (I was sitting in film class discussing the most shocking moments on T.V and film and a certain moment was mentioned- unfortunatly no-one knew what I was talking about) B.R.G should be careful what he wishes for...

(GOD NO NO NO!!!) Sorry, Bad things happen. Things even Mr Straczynski has said he would never have done...had he known.

(Okay think happy thoughts- think Keffer getting melted by the shadows- ah thats better- annoy **** faced flyboy!)

Does anyone else get tempted to write an audience participation guide to B5 (like the one for Rocky horror?) Where you yell the strangest things at the tv...

"Hi, how are you feeling,"
"LIKE I GOT MY HEAD IN A VICE! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FEEL TRON BOY?"

Sorry- one of my favorites when i'm not bawling at that scene...

neway enough of your time wasted.

Oh, wait- one question. When Marcus waves his hand infront of Ivanovas face and says "You'll never know," -- Whats he on about? "You'll never know whats for dinner, you'll never know I sleep every night with your link under my pillow..." Anyone got any ideas?

Okay, I lied, 2 questions... Why is Jason Carter the only actor with the ability to pronouce "Ivanova" correctly! (ee-van-o-vah) (I looked at the cherry orchard and according to that he is right)

Oh I need a life!

"Marcus decided that he would have to learn how to keep his mouth shut."-- To dream in the city of sorrows... Even in the novels Marcus is great!

Rangers- never- bluff.
